Question TPLO surgery, hellish complication.

Hi all new 'round here.

My 8 y/o pup, Kyla (rottie) had TPLO surgery a week ago to address a completely torn ligament (CCL). Surgery went fine, however upon recovering she has lost the use of her GOOD back leg. The vet has tested her, xrayed her, etc.. and cannot figure out what's causing it.

It seems to be neurological (at first her toes were curled, now she is extending them normal). She will not bear weight on the "good" leg, it splays out as if it's dislocated (it's not). Luckily, she's begun bearing weight on her surgery leg, and is now hopping around on THAT leg, to help get her around because of the lame other back leg. We're heartbroken, and confused.

She is diabetic, she's been well regulated for 3 years. Vet mentioned 'diabetic neuropathy' but from what I'm reading it doesn't fit that well (as it was sudden, and as she has been well regulated).

The vet (her surgeon) has no ideas for us.. he says just give it time, as that's all we can do. Meanwhile we're lugging around an 80 lb rottie to go in and out of the house to potty (which we expected from the surgery, not from the sudden non-use of both legs!).

Any thoughts? Experiences? Ideas? Prayers..? Hugs??

Thanks so much for reading.

I've never heard of that before. I've read a lot about Jack Russells having ligament surgery but not with that complication. Poor old girl.

This is going to sound daft but it is the only thing I can think of - could she possibly have had pins and needles in her good leg and that has left her too scared to use it? My old girl had a funny turn a while ago and all we can think is that her leg fell asleep.

Thanks so much!

At first the vet (when he tried to get her up to standing after surgery) thought the exact same thing.. but the fact that it hasn't gotten better after a week, means it may not get better.. or it might, with time.. (it's all unknown!).

I've searched online and searched and I can find NOTHING on this.. it's so strange, and sad!!
