Default Skunks/Porcupines

Skunks--Getting the Smell 'Gone'.
Wear 'laytex' gloves when washing the skunk spray from your pet to avoid getting the skunk smell all over you!
Some different things to try:
1. To deodorize skunk odor from a dog or cat, make a thick paste from baking soda and warm water, apply the paste to the animal's fur, and let dry.

2. In a bucket, mix 1/4 cup baking soda, 1 quart hydrogen peroxide, and 1 teaspoon Dawn dishwashing liquid. Use a scrub brush to work the solution into your skunked pet's fur, and then rinse well.

3. Saturate your pet with warm Canada Dry Club Soda and work it into the animal's coat. Let sit for 10 mins, allowing the action of the club soda to do its magic, and then shampoo your pet. Rinse clean with water.

4. Fill a watering can with Coke, saturate your dog or cat with it, and let it soak for 5 mins. Then rinse clean with warm water.

5. Scrub your skunked dog or cat with Colgate regular flavor toothpaste and rinse thoroughly with warm water. The mildly abrasive toothpaste removes the skunk odor and leaves your pet smelling minty fresh.

6. Lather up your pet with Dawn dishwashing liquid to break down the skunk oil, which washes away when you rinse with warm water. Repeat if necessary.

7. To deodorize skunk smell from a dog or cat, mix equal parts white vinegar and water, saturate the pet's fur with it and let set 10 mins, and rinse clean with water. Repeat if necessary.

8. Apply Listerine antiseptic mouthwash full strength to the affected areas (avoiding the pet's eyes and ears). Then shampoo and rinse the animal clean. Cool Mint makes the pet smell better than the original mediciney flavor.

9. To deodorize skunk from a dog or cat, saturate your pet's fur with evaporated milk, let dry thoroughly, and then shampoo your pet. Rinse clean with water.

PORCUPINES--the quills in your dog or cat?
Put on a thick pair of leather gloves. Using a pair of needle-nose or blunt-nose pliers, grasp the quill firmly close to the fur and remove the quill very slowly, allowing the flesh to release its grip on the barbs. To prevent the wound from getting infected, apply Betadine Solution, and then flush the wound clean with lukewarm running water. Pat dry with a towel.

i wouldnt recommend removing the quills from any larger dog at home while the dog isnt on some sort of tranquilizer. under the pain of pulling out the quills the dog is not in their right mind and could react viciously to your meaningful actions.

my friends rottweiler once bit into a porcupine on their farm. in attempt to avoid a bill at the vet my friend attempted to remove the quills at home with anesthetic, needle nose, and another person to hold down the dog. it did not go well as his rather large rotty fought like hell kicking and almost biting the arm of the person holding his head. It was not until a horse tranquilizer was introduced into his system for him to quit fighting. it would recommend just going to see a vet where they have the proper pain killers and procedure for the situation. do it yourself isnt always the best approach.
