Default Malamute's health issues

Hey,

I'm going to adopt a dog and I got an excellent offer for Malamute.
I found this dog as an amazing dog, and I'm just felling in love with it.

I've heard that Malamute has some serious genetic disease, does that breed is known for his health problems?

They are known for hip dysplasia and luxating patellas.

I've heard that the hip dysplasia and luxating patellas usually coming when the dog is getting older, is that true?

is the health issues of the Malamute should make me think twice before getting one?

Smile Welcome to the Forum!

Here is a good link for info you may be looking for: Alaskan Malamute Information and Pictures, Alaskan Malamutes

Be sure to read well the Living Conditions. I have a book on breeds of dogs. Some of what it says about the Malamute: Malamutes are unsuited to life in hot climates! Be aware--May be aggressive with other dogs.

Default Thanks!

Just read this article an hour ago, a lot of interesting details!

I guess that the Malamute is suit for me, I come back a bit late from school, but the family will help me, they will take him to a short walk while I'm at school, and the long walk he will do with me.
The only fact that make me to think twice is the health issues, but I understond that most of the large dogs got these problems and the Malamute is'nt a breed which known for health issues more than other dogs.
Thanks on the help!

I will be happy if someone can help me with the picture of the dog I'm gonna adopt, he looks a bit neglected, I want to know if it may be a serious problem.
He is a "full Malamute"(Sorry, dont know how to say that in English, his parents were both Malamutes).
I can't post pictures here, so if someone agree to help me, I can send him the picture in PM.

Again, THANKS, I really appraciate that.

I've seen puppies with luxating patellas. It was probably a result of bad breeding.
