Arrow Emergencies--Some good info

This is a chapter from a very good Home Vet Book. I have an older version of this book--It is very thorough. I have recommended this book many times before. In looking up for something else--I came across this whole chapter on emergencies in it. I hope if any of you have an emergency and can't get to the vet right away, etc---that you can find info on what to do here!

http://media.wiley.com/product_data/...0470067853.pdf

This will give you a lot of what is written in that book--about infectious diseases for 1 chapter and much more! I copied this address to my bookmarks so I can find it --There are so many similar addresses but this one is the only one that goes in so much depth on many subjects!--->
http://alaskapirate.com/dog-owners-h...y_Handbook.pdf You may have to copy this address with this way as the ones highlighted in here may just work for the dog forum when you are in here. Try this to add to your browser and insert in your bookmarks-- http://alaskapirate.com/dog-owners-handbook. You may have to hand copy it as I don't know if it will take in red! /Dog_Owners_Home_Veterinary_Handbook.pdf The 1st address above is just on the 1st chapter--emergencies but you may want to put that address also in your bookmarks for fast reference if you ever have an emergency!! This --if you want to put it in bookmarks You prob can click on it here and when you get the site up--then copy that address given from ther in your bookmarks----Geeze! Having a hard time with this--Hope you figure it out!!! I've been on this computer too long today!!!

And I have mentioned before in here that I think this is an excellent book to have on hand! If you want to check it out--have your library find a copy for you to check out or go to Amazon.com--Amazon is selling them at a very cheap price too. (It is an expensive book otherwise!) One member from this forum had asked me how to get this book and she ordered from Amazon and said she was happy to have the book! Actually this is the message she left me on my profile page---- Kingsbridge Cav
I found the newest edition of the book you recommended. I paid more (about $22) but am happy with the newer info and think I still got a steal through Amazon.com. A new edition starts at $82. I got a used in good condition copy and am eagerly awaiting it's arrival. Thanks for the recommendation. I'm sure I will get a lot of use from it.
I visited our nearby rescue kennel today and am realizing that I am a lot closer than I thought on a dream I have been thinking about. I want to board dogs and thought it would be prohibitively expensive. Turns out that I can manage wast the same way any dairy farmer does. My other concern was getting heavy fencing for the larger dogs and not having the funding at my finger tips. The shelter is putting me on a list to receive donations since they have all they need at this time. I'm very excited and am doubly glad that I have found such a valuable resource in th Dog Owner's Vet Handbook!
Thank You! It's a great Day!

Here is what one person said about: this is a must have book for anybody who owns a dog. Easy to use and provides great information. I was able to diagnose my own dog with this book and when I took her to the vet he spent less time figuring out what she had and more time treating her. It also helps you understand your dog, as far as possible problems they can acquire. If you have a dog, you need this book. And I always buy my books on Overstock.com! I have not checked out Overstock.com It may not even be anymore as this quote was done in 2010.

The name of the book is: Dog Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook by James M. Giffin, M.D. and Liisa (yes there are 2 i's in her name!) Carlson, D.V.M. My copy was copyright 2000. There is at least 1 newer version. If you do end up with the 2000 version---It is still a book with a lot of good info! ONE THING TO BE NOTED: phenylpropanolamine which is another name for the KILLER Proin!!!! It is mentioned under the heading about urinary incontinence in the chapter 14 of this book. This drug should be banned---Read all about what it is and how many dogs have died or become permanently harmed (KIDNEYS FAIL) because of it here:Is your dog on PROIN? READ THIS! One member's dog suffered for almost 2 months before dying!

You should always research well any medicine you are going to give your dog--Vet's approval or not!!! Of course you should check out all drugs you are going to take yourself too!!
