Dog will not eat special vet food?
Hello, all!
My miniature beagle, Noodles recently had a stomach upset. I took her to the vet last night, and x rays showed that she had something in her stomach that hadn't passed. The vet informed me that if it didn't pass by morning, she would need surgery. Luckily, she threw up a bunch last night. This morning, I took her back. The lump of food/chewed up stuff was gone! The vet gave her a nausea shot, and sent me home with some special food. It's been about 5 hours since I've been able to give her food, but she shows no interest at all when I put it near her. Thankfully, she's drinking water. I was wondering if it's bad that she hasn't eaten yet? And, if it's ok, then would she eat again in the morning?
She's 8 years old, 15.5 pounds if that helps.

Welcome to the Forum!
Just a quick comment--I don't know what you feed your dog normally and how well she liked it or if she is a fussy eater! She may not like this different dog food that the vet gave you, or she just may need a little more time if her stomach may still be upset! When did she eat last? I wouldn't worry too much about it unless she goes without eating tomorrow. Would like to know what the special dog food is that the vet gave you? ( Have to go feed my 2 dogs their supper--I feed raw and home cooked.) Let me know if she doesn't eat tomorrow --I may have some ideas to get her appetite back--in a hurry right now though.

why the special food? does she have colitis or diabetes or some other medical condition?
otherwise, i'd just give her her regular food back or transition her to BARF diet (i'm another raw-food feeder: it's cheaper than kibble to feed my dog from the discount meat bin at the grocery store).

Luckily, she ate breakfast no problem! The doctor gave me a brand called prescription diet for gastro instestinal health. We usually feed her Eukanuba, no problems. I guess she just wasn't eating because she was still feeling ill. She was actually excited to eat this morning, so that's a good sign!

She's on the wet food. The second ingredient is turkey. I appreciate your help, but the food really has helped with the whole situation. She hasn't been passing stool when she was sick, and when she started on this, she's passing no problem. It's not the ingredients that made her not eat it. She was still sick. She ate the food this morning, no problem and ate all of her serving.

I agree about that vet crap--hoping you can find a good food when you think she can handle it. I have read that the 'wet' food is the worst type to feed---Has a lot of sugar and it just isn't as nutritional either.
I feed no commercial dog foods. It would be good to see how your dog would do on a raw and/or home cooked diet. It is something that has to be studied though to get it right! Will leave you a couple of links to read about dogs and diets/nutrition--I just put these links in another post last night so will give you the link to that thread here and you will see the 2 links to click on in that thread/post! Hope you read them!
Dog Nutrition---A Good and Interesting--Informative Read!!!
One thing with your dog---It may not be able to handle all the preservatives and unnatural things in commercial dog food.

Give her some time and I am sure she will eat it when she feels like eating.
