Default Broken tooth

Hi!
I noticed yesterday that my 4 year old NSDTR has broken his top fourth premolar. It seems to be pretty painful and needs to be treated.
My vet recommends either a root cannal or extracting the tooth.
Both will require general anesthesia. The root cannal can run over $800. Everyone tells me that extracting it is the best option. They say it won't be harmful to the dog in the long run and that he can function without it.

Has anyone had that same problem with their dog? What did you do?
What would you recommend??

Thanks!

Default extract it

Hi Yah! With my old dog maddie(rest in peace) I had a similar problem but I wasn't offered both options just an extraction regardless of that she never had any problems without the tooth. Also she seemed fine after the operation ate pretty much normally, I just made sure everything was a bit softer and easier for her to chew. Just the same as us if we have a tooth removed. I hope your happy with your decision and your dog is too

Default Tooth fixed

Thanks for your concern and your reply!

In the end I went to the vet to get the tooth looked at. Since, the tooth was still healthy and no infection had set in we decided to have it fixed. Since our dog is only 4 yrs old we didn't have the heart to get it extracted...

It ended up costing us a little over $500 and everything went very well.

From now on, we will be extremely careful to watch what he chews on!!!
