Default Hurtin Golden

My 5 year old Golden went from happy healthy and active to paralyzed in a matter of minutes. I heard him yelping/crying in the woods and thought he had finally caught one of those creatures he likes to chase and maybe had gotten scratched or bitten. I was suprised to find him shaking and wound free, but walking very funny and not wanting to walk.

Rushed him to the vet and by the time we got there his back legs were paralyzed. By the time I left the vet 2 hours later he wasnt moving his front legs either.

The vet thought this to be a herniated disc in his spine.

We then took the dog to Michigan State University's vet clinic (that night) and had him looked at there. Similar dignosis. Tumor on or around spine, degenerative disc disease, Herniated disc, or a couple others that we eliminated.

Only way to know for sure is MRI or CT scan and as many of you probably know this is very expensive and only diagnosis the problem, doesnt fix it. Spinal surgery would likely follow.

Austen is 5 years old and in great shape (72 lbs) this is heartbreaking for me and my family how things changed so suddenly.

He is home now and on steroids and bed rest. We are hoping for some recovery over the next week or two.

Anybody have any similar experiences or advice?

Thanks~
