if you reading this right now you may be able to help me!!
because the shetland sheepdog is from the shetland isles, where it is cold, does this mean that they are well adapted to the cold/winter????

| | Guest | Yep, They Do Well In Cold Weather
We've owned four Shelties (2 have dearly departed) and all coped well with cold, winter weather (we live in Michigan).
One Sheltie we had, Rusty, loved the snow! He used to roll in it, just having a great time! Our current Shelties, Sparky and Max also adore the snow and chase each other around in the yard. They are especially beautiful when they run in the snow.
Of course, I wouldn't have them living outside at any time, any season, but their coats can withstand the weather. Just be sure to wipe the ice formation off their paws/feet.
Never clip or cut a Sheltie's coat. Their coats protect them from sunburn, rain and other foul weather. Only cut out any matted hair that can't be combed out. Sometimes, to keep poop from sticking to their back legs, I'll trim the hair there, otherwise, leave the hair alone. They need daily brushing, too.
Shelties are wonderful dogs, highly intelligent and high spirited.

I would think they're adapted for cold weather, but as spud touched on, I would not keep them outside all winter long. Curious, why do you ask??

I believe that they are cool with winter season, their double-coated for warmth and weather-proofing; the long, flowing outer coat repels the cold rain and blocks the wind, and the soft undercoat insulates the skin. Built for cold weather/climate. But do not put your dog out on winter that much. It will not give him much good benefits.

Yes, I think so.
I kinda heard that shelties blow coat heavily twice a year. In the early spring and fall, you need to brush your dog and vacuuming the floors. Is this true?

Unfortunately for Sheltie owners, daily grooming and brushing are essential because of their thick coat. But the coat does keep them warm in the coldest climes.

Hello to all
The Shetland Sheepdog, often known as the Sheltie and sometimes as the Shetland Collie, is a breed of dog in the pastoral dog group, resembling a miniature Rough Collie.
Shelties are family-oriented dogs that can be as at home in a flat in a town as in a house in the country. They have a thick double coat that can come in many different colours and patterns. They are vocal dogs, with few health problems; among those they are prone to are hip dysplasia and thyroid problems. They are very good house and family dogs. A sheltie is very protective and good with children if properly socialised with them while it is a puppy.
Thanks for sharing
