Pit Bull is a term commonly used to describe several breeds of dog in the Molosser family that were historically used for dog fighting. In the history of England, these dogs were used in battle and for guarding, but they also served utilitarian purposes, such as farm work. Specifically, these dogs accompanied farmers into the fields to assist with bringing bulls in for breeding, castration, or slaughter. Generally known as bulldogs, they protected the farmer by subduing the bull if it attempted to gore him.
Typically a dog would do this by biting the bull on the nose and holding on to the violently struggling bull despite injury. They are popularly known as "lock jaw" dogs that anyone bitten by them cannot easily get away from their hideous jaws. Lack of proper socialization and strong training can result in a dog with aggressive tendencies. Under the care of an overly-permissive or uneducated owner, Pit Bulls can become very dangerous dogs. So you gotta treat them right and give the love that they need.

There is nothing here about the LOVE pitbulls show to their people, which is unique and unmatched. Reading more details about how this breed came about, you'll find the emphasis put on being extremely friendly to their human. Speciments that weren't extremely friendly to humans were discarded.
The baby faced and baby hearted pitbulls of today are simply willing to satisfy their human in everything they're asked.
Think of them as kids in the hands of evil men! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Pitbull_Terrier

Completely agree with Anubis, there's nothing greater than the love of a pit and it's caregiver. The reason they're so sought after by vile men and their ridiculous fighting schemes is because of their incredibly loyalty and the love they have. They'd just die of disappointment if they ever felt like they didn't give their owner what they asked for. Talk about loyalty.. they can be a weapon if taught so, but an angel if taught so also. No one seems to remember that.

I couldn't agree more.... Pit Bulls, like ANY breed, can be dangerous. However, they are certainly not monsters as far too many people make them out to be. These dogs are also known to be very loving, and loyal to their family. Pit Bulls can and do make great loving family pets, so long as they recieve the proper care, training, socialization, ect.
I do understand that they are a very powerful, strong willed breed.... but raised in a good enviroment, they can be and are, very sweet natured, loving, loyal dogs.

I strongly agree with all of you here. Pit Bulls are unlike any other breed, and do require a special level of responsibility and attention to ensure that you are responsible with the world's most feared and stereotyped breed. People disliked them because of their abilities. But I tell you, pit bulls are extra loving and protective to their masters. And I am against pit bull fighting, anyone?

| | Guest | dont flame me :(
i tend to agree with all of you pits can be so loving
but please understand that even the most calm Pit can get aggressive for no reason my cousin breeds pit bulls and his male "Chango" is a lovely dog he never growled or bit me or has never shown any aggressiveness toward any visitors to my cousins complex but one day out of the blue chango bit his own owner my cousin said "i gave him his food and he bit my forearm" my cousin loves his dogs he would never harm them but chango did bite him and that really shocked me my cousin had i don't know how many stitches we both took Chango to a vet (with a muzzle of course) and the vet (who also is a breeder and a good veteran on dog behavior and mental illness) said that sometime with aging a dog can change his behavior and turn more aggressive or calm (as we know a pit has a tendency to become a uncontrolled element) i say dogs are dogs My great dane is a pushover but can you imagine a angry tall bulky scoobydoo angry? i guess it really starts when you pick your dog out of the litter? (for some who get the chance to do ) i know people who breed pitbull (like my cousin) will probly flame me for this post but my question is for pitbull owners or lovers or breeders its not what you think but maybe what your dog thinks and acts around people?

Most dogs tend to get cranky when they age and there is such a thing as dementia in dogs.....It sounds to me like the vet believes it was do to his aging which has nothing to do with his breed.....I've seen Poodles that do the very same thing....
