Default Do dogs have a sense of humor?

My friend has an irish terrier and a soft coated wheaten terrier. They're both almost 9 years old. They are goofs. The irish terrier is a little clown. the soft coated wheaten is more the "perfect dog" because she never does wrong and is always affectionate and calm and gentle. And so is the irish terrier. but the irish terrier acts like a goof sometimes and I think she gets a kick out of being goofy. Do you think dogs have a sense of humor?

Absolutely! My little weinder dog plays "keep away" with his toys.

He wants to play I can tell so I slowly creep up to grab his toy out of his mouth, and just when I am close to the toy, he turns his head. And keeps turning his head everytime I'm about to grab the toy.

Ofcourse! Humorous behavior may be repeated because of the positive reaction received. In this case, you can’t say the dog has a sense of humor, but is acting on positive reinforcement. Just as some people enjoy making others laugh, it would seem, so do some dogs. A dog’s world of humor would have to be mostly on the physical level, through simply behaving in a goofy manner, or playing little tricks on you.

Definitely yes, dog are funny at times. My dog acts weird sometimes and burps so loudly. It so funny...

Scooby Doo is an example of a humorous dog. Haha!

Our dog Yoda absolutely has a sense of humor. He knows exactly when to jerk our chain, and when to do his cute number. His purpose in life is to bring a smile to people's faces, just from the way he looks. Read about our life with him on Three Black Spots.

Of course dogs have a sense of humor. They play, don't they? And research has shown that dogs laugh, too. A dog's laugh is partly facial expression, and partly a "chuffing" noise them make in their throats. Research has also shown that another dog will join in, and laugh with them.

Do you have any sources for this research? It would be an interesting read, I'm sure.

Default Do dogs have a sense of humor....

Of course they do. A dogs smile is not necessarily just a positive reinforcement reaction. My boxer in particular initiates behavior that she knows we and the other dogs will laugh at. All but the Xolo, except on occasion, do silly stuff that they know will provoke laughter. The boxer likes to leap 6 plus feet in the air on top of a huge tree stump - just 'cause she knows we will get a good laugh as well as get the other dogs playing.

Some dogs are also in a bad mood but some dogs are always sweet and have a sense of humor.. But I believe it's up with the owner on how he or she teaches or train his dog.

I know my sisters dog is a pro at keeping it's toy juuuuust barely out of my reach. Hmmm, perhaps it thinks I need exercise or something!

Definitely, although my buddy is somewhat lazy and naughty, he definitely have something to make everyone smile and feel comfort.

Yes they most certainly do!! My little terrier knows that when I am sitting down in the evening it's time for her to play. Typical, so she brings anything she can see and pushes it against my leg so I have to get up and play with her.

They sure do!

Another question one could ask is....How would you know if your dog is smiling?

No dogs do not have " a sense of humor". Are they goofy goobers at times? Yes. But they dont have human comprehension. They dont think "Im being funny". They think "I do this and mommy/daddy are pleased" So if your sitting there and laughing at them, of course they are going to keep acting funny. If you sit there and scream bloody murder at them, the goofiness will most likely stop because you seem "unpleased with this behavior".
