Dogs dont have the mental capacity to see us for "who we are". A dog see's you as master. If your nice to him, he'll be nice to you.

Our dog was came from a good owner but had to give him up. He still he is, enjoying what he was, up to as lazy or as thoughtful/cheerful he was and we always bless him. He's more obedient and friendly now maybe because we had more attentions from us. Now the answer to your question is, it's depend on the owner. Pittbulls can be as friendly as they are as well as Lab can be harmful as they are, depending on their owners.

SwayRaines has a point...
All I know is that dog is the most honest among animals...
Anyway, IMO my dog loves me so much...
I know that he loves me unconditionally...

Oh and to add. A dog doesnt have the mental capacity to see us as fat/skinny, good/bad, nice to others or mean to others. There have been plenty of cases where BAD people own dogs. They might be mean to other people but are nice to their dogs. The dog loves the owner anyway.

Dogs are animals that love to please their owners. I've seen abused dogs who still try and get affection from its abusive owners.

The fact that I have owned dogs that would go off their food because I had to drop them off to a boarding facility or to a friend makes me think that there is so much more than food when it comes to a dog/owners relationship.
Actually, my mom always tells me the story of my uncle's dog that refused to eat when he had to leave Italy for the States when the big immigration waves took place many years ago. He ended up dying from mourning his owner no matter how much my grandma tried to encourage him to eat and give him love.

However, I must admit I was slightly upset when my hubby used to feed our dogs and when I cam home they just looked at me one second and finished gulping down their food, lol!

If you love your dog, i'm sure it will love you back.

I've never seen a dog which don't love its owner.

Of course my dog loves me for who I am. She is there at the door and greets me when I come home. She is sleeping by my side when I do my homework. She follows me wherever I go. I love her for who she is and she loves me for who I am- No matter how I look- she still loves me <3

before perhaps i would like to say just because i feed them. but now i gradully dogs have love. all of you can see from their eyesight:kinda sensitive and hopeful. so i do believe dogs love who you are but not just for food.

It is reported that a dog rescued his owner in the earthquake.

Default I had to reply

I believe dogs love their owners no matter what.

When I was little we had 2 saint bernards ( excuse the spelling). One was the mother misty and one was her son Andy. we lost misty due to a broken heart when we went to florida for a vacation. The care taker called and said she wasn't doing well. And later when my parents called the vet , the vet had said she died of a broken heart. she was deeply saddened.

two years later my brother left for the service and since andy and him were always together. We lost him the same way as misty a broken heart.

Now I know when I go shopping and come home gizzy is so wound up and excited that I must let her out the door to greet her as she will piddle some. so we greet outside. she gets her tummy rubbed and then inside we go and all is good. even when she snoops in the bags looking for a new squeeker that isn't there.

Timber follows me through the house like he will be lost if I am not beside him.

I truly believe you will get out of a dog what you put in a dog.

I don't believe a dog likes/loves you for food. I think he likes/loves us for everything we do for them. Feeding, training, exercise, playtime, snuggle time, etc.

Not to humanize dogs ,but they are like kids. The more time and effort you put in them the better they turn out. Of course this is my opinion and what I have observed from having 2 kids and many animals.

Some funny & inspiring replies here! Thought I'd join & say that I get SO much happiness from my dog, and I know he feels the same way...that thumping tail whenever I walk into a room, that look he gives me on the rare occasion I go somewhere without him...I also know he'll do anything for food!

Here's a quote from my calendar this month: "A dog naps so much because it loves so hard"
