Default Good night Chester

This is my first posting on here ,

Monday was the worst day of our lives , our 10 1/2 yr old jack russell was having breathing problems and i took him to the vets at 9.30 am.

They told me he couldnt be saved as he had fluid on his lungs and chest and the kindest thing was to let him go to sleep.
I cried like a baby felt guilty for having him put to sleep , all i could see was him lying there in peace no more pain but the pain was mine saying good bye to him , i used to speak to him everyday even got on all fours and cuddled him like a baby , he brought so much joy into our lives ,even when every morning he climed into bed with us or the kids and stayed there.
He never moaned just did as he was told , let me know when some one was at the door or the post man came to the point we needed a post box cover as he ripped the mail .
Iam washing his bed and taking it to the animal shelter with his bowels , but its hard iam in tears now writing this .
I know time will hear me but for now its so painfull that hes gone , i look on the stairs to see if hes there or check the bedrooms and remind myself that hes gone.
Just needed to talk .
Andrew

Please accept my sincere condolences on your loss. I completely understand how you feel. The guilt we feel at putting an animal to rest is enormous, and the only way to make it fade seems to be to continue to tell yourself that it was the best thing for them. You are right that time will heal...but you will never forget. And eventually you will be able to talk and think about your beloved dog with fondness and even smile at the thought of him, but it does hurt beyond anything you can imagine for a while. Best wishes and know that I am sure Chester is watching everything you do high from his perch in heaven.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is heartbreaking when we have to make that terrible decision to let them go. I still think now " should I have done that?" and one of them was 5 years ago and the other last September. We have to trust the vets advice and do what they think is best even though it is not what we want. I hope your guilt and pain ease with time and you can think of the great times you had together.----Aggy
