My Neighbor Murdered My Dog
On January 9, 2010 as hubby and I were leaving for church we witnessed someone run over my neighbors dog right in front of us. They never even tapped their brakes; just mowed him down and kept going. We picked him up and put him in the back of our truck and took him back to our neighers house and told them what had happened. (I couldn't just leave him lying there and go on about my day and let someone find their dog like that.) I could tell by the way our neighbor was acting that he thought we had done it and were just lying about what really happened. On January 17, 2010, my Aussie/Beagle mix came up missing. While I went on to work my husband called Animal Control to see if they had picked him up and the Sherriffs Dept to see if anyone had called in about him being out; no's on both. A little later he went looking for him and found him at the end of the street, lying in the culvert, dead, in almost the exact same spot as my neighbors dog was ran over. Some people have tried to convince me that it was just a coincidence but I know it was not because in the 4 years we had him he NEVER went to the highway, ever. If he got out, he would roam the neighborhood a bit or go try to herd the neighbors horses (different neighbor) but did not go out to the main highway. Since this happened these neighbors have not spoken to us where they used to be very social. I cannot prove it but I know they killed him.
I miss Diesel so much. He was my little protector. He always let me know if ANYTHING was going on in the whole neighborhood. I always felt so safe with him around because my husband is an OTR truck driver and I spend alot of time alone. One time when he was a baby, about 3 months old, he was sleeping in the bed with me and one of the cats jumped off of the coutertop and made a loud thud that woke him up and startled him. He jumped up and literally stood over the top of me and cominced to barking and snarling and carrying on like he was going to kill whatever walked in the door. lol

Wow. That's awful! Truth be told, I'm inclined to agree with you. That's just too much of a coincidence. Were they able to tell how he died? Did the neighbor dog survive its injuries or did it die as well? You know...I'd be tempted to go over to them showing all the emotion of losing your beloved pet and let them know the awful fate of your dog. Let them know that you konw they can sympathize and that you wish there had been something you could have done for their dog...I don't know where I'm going with this. There really is nothing you can do now, is there? Hmm. Sad. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I feel bad that something happened to your dog, but I am really upset that you weren't out with your dog keeping an eye on it. My dogs are never outside by themselves. The planet is full of stupid people that could steal or hurt my dogs.

My dog was confined to my yard. These people came into my yard and let him out of the back yard. I should not have to be with my dog 24/7 when he is CONFINED to my yard. Diesel did not feel threatened by this person because he had been to my house several times and used to pay him to mow our yard. Do not start judging me when you don't know the whole story.

I know you think that you shouldn't have to watch your dog if it's in your back yard on your property, but there are lots of idiots and assholes out there that can't wait to make someone have a bad day. I realize that and therefore I do not leave my dogs out in the yard unattended. In an ideal world, we should be able to let our dogs and kids out to play in the backyard and expect people to leave them alone, but this isn't an ideal world. I was in the bank and I was listening to the guy in front of me tell his buddy about how he swerved to hit a cat and how much better the world is without it. All I could think was "What if it was someone's pet?" THIS is the world we live in. I feel bad you lost your dog but I do hope the next time you realize what kind of world we live in and keep a close eye on him so it doesn't happen again.

I know all too well what kind of world I live in because I have experienced a whole lot of bad crap in my life and I have worked in a maximum security prison psych ward and could tell you stories that would give you nightmares. I can promise you that it will not happen again for one because this person has been told if he sets foot back on my property he will catch a bullet and he knows me well enough to know I am not effing around. And for another thing my Pyr Angel would EAT him before he or anyone else could get all the way over the fence. Unlike my sweet Diesel, Angel doesn't trust anyone but me as is the Pyr's nature.

I'm suprised you didn't go over there with a shotgun and threaten to blast his ass off the face of the earth.

I can't imagine what I would do in your position. That is horrible. EVEN if you had accidentally run over their dog (which I don't believe) but for someone to purposely out of spite kill someone's dog?.. It is psychotic! I'm not very familiar with law, but I would file a police report. Even if you can't prove anything, it is at least written & the your dogs death acknowledged for you.

Thanks you for your kind words and support. By the time I thought of filing a police report it was too late (a few weeks after the fact) and even then I don't know what they could have done. The fact that someone could be so cruel as to do that to a dog scares the heck of me to be honest because the next step is humans. That is one of the reason we wanted a Pyr because of their natural guarding instinct. My Angel makes me feel so safe; I hug her and tell her (and my other doggies of course!) how much I love her every day.

I think there are some humans out there who should be run over like that w/o stopping. It would be justice served. If your neighbor shows up dead in a gutter, I know nothing...

Sigh...
I'm so very sorry for your loss. There is nothing I can possibly say that will ease your hurt but, please know that I care...

That is so unfair. It would take me so long to get over it. To have to deal with someone deliberately killing your dog is horrid.

Hi, I'm kinda new here, and although this happened a while ago, I just wanted to add my extreme sympathies to you over your loss. There would be no way of proving who was responsible, but I see where another comment is going when they suggested going over to your neighbours and trying to share the loss of both dogs together.
Of course, if they didn't care or tried to imply that it was justice somehow, then I'd be inclined to return with a pack of starving wolves......
Anyway, I'm glad your other dogs are giving you comfort and taking the edge off your pain.
