Priviledged
Hi,
We have lost our beautiful boy Dash. We are broken hearted and miss him so much.
We had over 9 wonderful years with him and as he was so loved we would not go on holidays abroad and he gave us the best times anyone can want.
We noticed Dash was having to slow down after every fast walk and took to get checked about 8 month ago. the vet said maybe he is a bit over weight and suggedted less dry food. We took him to another vet which came highly recomended and he did a full check up and found his heart and lungs in good order. Last month we took him again to the same vet and they suggested a blood test which was clear.
On Monday 3ed October Dash had his meal and Tuesday was happy to go out for a walk, But did not eat his breakfast after the walk. He had been off food many times before. The next day by late afternoon he looked distressed and was acting strange. we took him to the vet. They took an x ray and kept him in for observation. The next day the vet phoned to say dash was getting worse and suggested an ultr sound scan which showed an abscess on his prostate that had burst. The vet said an operation was going to give him a 50% chance which we agreed but he passed away during the night.
We never got see him to say goodby.
We are devastated to lose him and our lives has turned upside down.
I have never been part of any forum but feel it is important to inform others about this disease.
The vet told us that this is a rare disease and only happens to dogs that are not neutered around the ages of 7-9.
We were priviledged to have had Dash.
thank you for reading this.

Thank you for sharing this information about Dash. He sounds like he was a wonderful dog, and you gave him a great life. Its always so hard to lose our furry friends. I sure it was even harder not to be able to be there with him when he passed on. But sharing this information may help another dog thur this disease. Just remember you gave Dash a wonderful life.

Please give yourself and family the time you need to heal.
Having a dog pass away is one of the hardest moments.
Take care.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. It doesn't matter how long you've raised fur kids. It never gets any easier. Rest assured that your little one will be restored to full health and find lots of friends at the Rainbow Bridge.

What to do now?
Hi,
It is now more than 3 weeks since Dash passed away. Our home is so quiet and empty without him.
I have suggested that we should look to get another dog sooner rather than later but my partner does not feel he could cope with it right now.
Most of our friends have said we should get another dog and I am for it, but Dash was really raised and looked after by my partner and he was so very much attached to him.
We talk about Dash all the time and remind ourself how lucky we were to have him and then tears most days.
I would be gratefule for any advice.
Thank you for all the support from people who have taken the time to write on this thread.

Hi Dash:
Personally, for as long as I am able to look after a dog, I will never be without a dog or two.
I've had to put two dogs down in the past, both from old age and the complications that came with that.
For some, getting another dog right away or even introducing one with the older one still around is the way to go. Others need the time to heal. We are all different. You both will know when the time is right.
For myself, no matter how many dogs I have the honor of sharing my life with, I will ALWAYS think of and remember the good times with the ones past.
And yes, I still shed a tear or two. I miss them.
Talk about Dash and remember the good times and shed some tears.
Always remember the love and moments that you shared with your dog.
