Default This is for my Honjo and all Akita's who died to young

The Spirit of an Akita Dog

I was standing on a hillside
In a field of blowing wheat
And the spirit of my Akita Dog
Appeared suddenly at my feet.

She looked at me with kind dark eyes
An ancient wisdom shining through
And in the essence of her being
I saw her love for me, too.

Her mind did lock upon my heart
As I stood there on that day
Then she told me of this story
About a place so far away.

I stood upon that hillside
In a field of blowing wheat
And in a twinkling of a second
Her spirit left my feet.

Her tale put my heart at ease
My fears did fade away
She helped me know where she had gone
When she left me on that day.

"I live among God's creatures now
In the heavens of your mind
So do not grieve for me, my friend
As I am with my kind.

My collar is a rainbow's hue
My leash a shooting star
My boundaries are the Milky Way
Where I sparkle from afar.

There are no pens or kennels here
For I am not confined
But free to roam God's heavens
Among my Akita kind.

I nap the day on a snowy cloud
Gentle breezes rocking me
And dream the dreams of earthlings
And how it used to be.

The trees are full of liver treats
And tennis balls abound
Chew bones line the walkways
Just waiting to be found.

There even is a ring set up
The grass all lush and green
And everyone who gaits around
Becomes the Best of Breed.

For we're all winners in this place
We have no faults, you see
And God passes out those ribbons
To each everyone, even me.

I drink from waters laced with gold
My world a beauty to behold
And wise old dogs do form my pride
To amble at my very side.

At night I sleep in an angel's arms
Her wings protecting me
And moonbeams dance about us
As stardust falls on thee.

You picture me as I was on earth
Just before I died
The pain is gone I am whole again
Filled with Akita pride.

So when your life on earth is spent
And you stand at Heaven's gate
Have no fear of loneliness
For here, you know I wait. "

That is such a wonderful poem mind if I send it to my sister in law? She had an Akita and it was only 5 months old when one of her nieghbors poisoned it and he ended up passing away.

Default my akita just passed

great poem. my 16 month old akita just passed on dec 1st from unknown causes. i believe it was from bloat or poison. me and my wife loved her dearly and she was way to young to die. i will grieve for her for quite a while. i hoped she would grow old with my newborn son but it appears this wont happen. my wife bought her on my birthday last year in november hoping it would help me when my great dane passed. he died 6 months ago from cancer but he lived a long life for a dane at 11 years. unfortunately i have to deal with 2 of my best friends dying in the same year. i have no dogs now that she is gone and not sure if i can bear getting another dog. it hurts too much when you lose them especially at such a young age. i am just posting on this forum for any advice on what i should do and also to see if other people feel as i do. she was my first akita and she was great with my son. i owned danes most of my life. i heard akitas were very tempermental when they grew up but as i said she seemed to love my 4 month old. most of the time i think she was just tasting him just kidding. anyway we miss her dearly and i hope that when we die we will see them, our friends again. i hope she is playing in heaven with bo my dane. suki my akita was a great , playful and loving dog and i will miss her dearly.

Default You should have

added a tissue alert to the title of that poem, tugs at the heart strings.
Im so sorry for your loss lawdawg, I too am a new member of the "humans owned by Akita" Breed, and have discovered in a very short time they just become so part of you, nothing like a dog that I have had before, I dread the day!!!!!!!!Regardless, we have become addicted to the Akita, I will not own any other breed for as long as I live.

Default nattie check websites about bloat

thanks for the post nattie. i just wanted to let you know dont do what i did and research what problems akitas have too late. i checked about bloat on different websites and if you havent already type it in a search engine to help avoid what happened to my puppy. your vet is able to show you how to do a bloat kit to relieve pressure until you make it to the vet. unfortunately i didnt know this until too late. i just dont want what happened to me to happen to anyone else. i thought she just had a stomach bug. not realizing she would die the next day. i never thought it would happen to me or to my baby who was so young. i have found out akitas are great dogs and i hope you live many long years with yours. if i ever find out how to post a pic of mine on this website i will. it appears all my pics are too large. one thing that i am glad of is i have a few videos of suki and bo together to savor some of our memories. maybe someday i will get another akita or great dane but not for a few months anyway. i dont want to feel as if im replacing my dog and i hope some of this heartache im feeling subsides a little bit. anyway sorry im rambling its still real fresh in my mind and i miss her dearly.

Default dont worry about rambling

times like this you have a free ticket to do so for as long as you need to! Many pet lovers......I say pet lovers not pet owners, know that it is like loosing a big part of yourself when you have lost a dear pet, regardless of how long they may have been with you. In some ways it is harder to lose them early than it is the ones that you have spent a long time with and have many years of good times together. but when you lose them young you can so often think of the "could have beens"
