The dog died when the two groups were fighting and the castle collapsed and the dog was in the escape tunnel. They buried the dog in pit inside a barn filling it with either grain or corn. I also think the kid who masterminded the snow castle creation was possibly chinese. The movie might have been filmed in the early to mid 80's.
