Default Help me re-name my new dog.....?

I'm getting an adult female Jack Russell Terrier this week and right now her name is Rainy. I don't like that name, but she's already 6 years old so I need something similar so I don't confuse her. Any suggestions?

Avoid names that have the long "o" sound in them like the word "no." Also, 2 syllable names are better than one syllable since most dog commands are one syllable. What about "Raina" which means queen in French?

You could probably re-name her anything you want as long as you call her in the same voice tone.

If you are wanting to make the name change as painless as possible, I would definitely stick with a two syllable name, and give it the same emphasis on each syllable as her previous name. Maybe you could try Sophie, Katey, Tracey, or some other such name.

I got my dog as an adult too and didn't like his original name either. A couple of tactics you might try: First, make sure you have the new name decided ahead of time. It's easier if you try and stick with the same vowel sound (RAinY, DelAneY, etc) but if you like ..Diann, for example it's possible. Once you've picked the name, stick with it. After you get the dog home: link the names first.ex. RainySarah. It's a little easier if you "cheat and treat" during this transition. Treat her when she responds to the linked name. Eventually, you will be able to drop the Rainy and go with just the new name. Keep treating alternating between food treats and attention. Good Luck!! PS Dumbo became Tobey (Who could live with Dumbo, big ears or no?! And RHYMING with Dumbo didn't leave too many options either! lol)
