Why can’t I name my dog “Lucky”?
Because I am asking you, politely, to desist. Any kind-hearted veterinarian out there will make the same request. While it may not be statistically significant, dogs named “Lucky” are, in fact, highly unlucky. Although you may have saved them or rescued them from the depths of despair, abuse, poor health, or tacky accessorizing, naming your dog Lucky will forever condemn it down the line. He’ll have bad veterinary luck, and often will get the worst of the worst diseases (every heard of endometrigrossoflamitris? I just made it up, but it sounds miserable and painful, so chances are high that Lucky will catch it). If you think I’m being superstitious, just poll any veterinarian out there and ask them what they think of the name. If a veterinarian tells you that Lucky is a good name, watch out for your wallet…
