We have 3 dogs. 1 Male Siberian Husky called Max. 1 Female siberian husky called Bella. And 1 female mix breed (small dog) called Lassie. No real story behind Max. Bella because It means white in my dads nationalityand she is a pure white husky, and because she is beautiful. Lassie because we bought her as a minature border collie and it reminded my parents of the Lassie dog in the Lassie movie! lol.. Take care

Default Sizwe, Fezi, Dubula, Florie, McDuff

I work in South Africa and try to name my dogs with SA names...my first dog, a boxer/ridgeback mix, was Sizwe. Sizwe (seez-way) means 'Nation' in Zulu, and Nelson Mandela had a dog named Sizwe while he was under arrest in Soweto. Mandela's Sizwe was very strong and clever, and my dog was kind of wimpy and not very clever, so I hoped he would live up to his name! (He was quite smart, but still a bit wimpy...nothing like having 70 pounds of mean-looking dog cowering behind your legs...)

Sizwe unfortunately succumbed to bloat while in the kennel, and I missed having a dog so much that I eventually found Fezi. (FEH-zee)...Fezi is a black lab - spaniel mix, but she runs like a whippet. She is black all over with a white patch on her belly and two white "socks" on her front feet.

If a Zulu man had a cow with Fezi's markings, he would say she was an "umfezi," which means "Spitting Cobra." Like the spitting cobra, you only see Fezi's white underbelly when she 'stands up' on her hind legs, like a cobra about to strike. She often 'walks' on her back legs to snatch bugs out of the air, so the name has become more appropriate!

A friend named his Ridgeback "Dubula" (DOO-boo-lah), which means 'Shoot' in Swahili.

My mum's Scotties are "Florie" and "McDuff"

In my house there are three dogs. Two of them belong to me and I named them King Cortland and Geneva Amore. My reasons are below.

King Cortland

He's red and was round in his baby picture so I chose Cortland after the Cortland apple. He's named King because he's my first dog and is so stunning in his appearance that he looks and is treated as royalty.

Geneva Amore

Geneva is Cortland's sister. I have more reasons why I chose her name. At the time I was looking online at tourist attractions in Switzerland. I love elegant names. I love lovey names, but I hate using the same names everyone else does. She is very lovable and the name suits her.

My puppies are Toy/Mini Australian Shepherd/Pomeranian (AussiePom).

My mother's dog Devin is a German Shepherd/Border Collie x Husky mix. I have always called her Puppy (I was 11) because my sister who named the dog wouldn't change the name and I hated it. She was also a puppy at the time so it made sense.

Default dog names

I have a 5month old Siberian Husky named Xaila. I got tired of all of the un-original names that you always hear, so i decided to come up with something completely unusual. I have no clue how i thought of that name, but it's perfect for her! My family also has Blue Lacys names Trapper, Ellie, Brutus, Lucifer, Hidie, Secret, Yuki, Ox, Jagd, and Ginger. We have 3 aussies named Jersey, Major, and Savannah. 2 pit bulls named Maya and Diva. 1 pit-lacy mix named Raegan. 2 chihuahuas named Jack and Meg. 1 lacy-plot mix named Sahara. We use them for hunting and working our livestock on our land.

Default cartooney

I have two husky/lab mix one year old girls. They were named by my 18 year old daughter and she decided on Daphne first. We picked her up the day before we got the other. The next day we picked up the second pup and she just couldn't bring herself to name her Velma ( Daphne's sidekick on Scooby Doo) so our little girl is Wilma off the Flintstones. At least no other dogs in the area have the same names!!

We have a couple Giant Schnauzers and people always ask us how or why we came up with those names? When we buy the puppies you have to pick an available registered name and this is whats on the papers. We picked " A black tie affair " for our first GS but for everyday life we call him Tuxedo. Our 6 month old is registered as " Neat, Tidy and slick " so we just call him Slick. The names kinda grow on you and defiantly different.
