Default To change or not to change

Hi all - I'm new here and would like some advice. I'd like to hear opinions on changing a dog's name - 2 1/2 yrs old, rescued dachshund, not abused, surrendered by loving family, original name known. Does it matter one way or the other? Seriously?

not a problem. think of all the shelter dogs with unknown names, they learn a new one.

I would suggest using his old & new name together for a week - & change your emphisis from old to new after a couple days.

I personally think that changing a rescues name is a nice thing to do.......It creates the new identity with the new family. I have changed animals names before and had friends who have changed animal names before, without any problem, all the dog/cat cares about is that when that word is said it means some love, attention and fun, they learn new names pretty quickly.

Calling him with his new name and rewarding will help.
He was able to recognize his new name faster and his loving owner.

I rescued a 15 month old dog who was named Lady, she was really sick and in bad shape when I got her so I decided to change her name to give her a new start, but I kept it kind of close so she wouldn't be to confused, now her name is Lily.

I would try to keep the name unless you absolutely hate it but thats because i always like to do things the easy way.

I think changing the name of your pet is not bad...
For his new beginning its better...
I think you have a good reason by doing that and that's for better...
