I'd certainly call Nippy, a very civilized creature! Trust him and you'll win. I believe you've found a companion with understanding beyond our comprehension

Well I would too, if I were you.. I think you are "lucky" (or is it something deeper?) in your choices... You seem to attract very lovable dogs

IMO its all about the bonding with in the first 2 or 3 hours you take them away from their pup brothers/sisters/parents...over an hour car ride home, with multiple stops at trucker rest stops/parks along with bringing my older aussie really helped. He never whinned or wimpered...hes yet to bark...im looking forward to creating a lasting bond with him.
also..my older aussie is going on 10..un-neutered and the only dog for 7 years...he hates when my sister coems to visit and brings her basset hound..they offten get into scuffles...he absolutely despises him...do you think his male pup will present problems? He has given him growls and a nip, not a bite, but for the most part seems to tolerate him..but i feel bad so i make sure i got out of my way to keep him tended to, the older aussie that is...In time, after spending alot of time together, do you think they'll be come buddies?
The older aussie hates other dogs usually and is unpredictable, but sometimes runs of with the neighbors male dog for hours...after 10 years, i still dont understand him...but i want him to know hes not being replaced, hes the reason why we got another. I take them on walks together, in the car, and try to give equal attention as much as possible, but still go outof my way to make the older happy...He seems to over look him...maybe give him a sniff but then bounces away and tries to ingnore him...will they ever be buddies? I heard aussies take better to other aussies...any truth to that?
sorry for the looong post...but 1 more thing to let you in on the situation. The 10 year old(mac) is not an old dog...took him to the groomers for the first time and when i got him back all the groomers said "on the paper it says 9 years old, you mean 9 months right?"...so hes still very active and playfull, so will, in time, they bond?

In my experience, I have two female dogs, the older must clearly be the leader! That respect must come from you too!!!!
Congrats for not neutering him!!!!!!!! I hate that!!!!
You are the only reason they'll tolerate each other ever!!! Time must pass before hierarchy is established and each one knows his place.... Then there will be peace in the house. Till then I recomend you keep a sharp look out how they get along.
Yes they can be friends,,, for your sake only!!! Just don't forget to serve the older one first to treat him like always have, like nothing has changed.
Keep the younger closer to you and protect him. Show the leader that you want the younger one protected and taken care of. Because he loves you, he'll comply.
Keep a sharp eye though, it is a jungle out there!!!!
Any dog can get along with any other for the sake of their human being!

oh theres already peace in the house...like i said he ignores him pretty much except when he gets close to his tennis balls and food..even then its a slight growl and the pup backs away and NEVER bothers him. When mac runs, the pup chases outside and jumps at him, mac just lifts his head above him and runs away...so its not pure hatred..my sis's dog is, sorry to say, but not the smartest dog...not even close..he gets nipped at and then lays 2 feet away and just barks at him...Mac 100% despises that dog!
Once the pup is growled at, he walks away or is taken away by me and a stern "No, be nice" is given to mac with a pet after wards..more so to calm him and let him know im not mad, but he needs to be nice.
Mac is very well rounded..grew up on a farm with 5 other dogs, then we moved to cali and unfortunately he was the only 1 that got to go( i still feel bad to this day for the others, but they all got good homes)...he was an inside dog after that and house broke within a week..having 1 or 2 accidents..Now we live in the country again, small town with neighbors but still alot of farm land..acre back yard with privacy fence. Plenty of exercise. One day he had an accident in the house..he got sick. I came home and was surprised not to be greeted at the door by him..heard something in the bathroom. It was him hiding in the bathtub but moving around anxiously because he was excited i was home..He knew about the throwup...it was actually pretty cute...as i cleaned it up he just layed under the table and watched with ears pinned back...this dog is incredibly smart
He still gets the same treatment, if not more out of the way affection to let him know he still "the dog"....
im off to walk the 2 to the grain elevator..its pretty close but a field is on the way so ima let em run. Thanks for the info..anything else is much appreciated.
