Sorry, I forgot to check how old this thread is... My dog has an "official" name, but my husband also gave her a nickname, which he uses almost exclusively, instead of her "real" name. So I always call her one thing (Annie), and my husband always calls her another ("Girly"). She responds to both names equally well. That being said, I don't think you actually have to "change" your dog's name. You can each call her what you like best, and she will understand.

It should be fine to change name, talking sweet and giving treats will talking or calling his name could help.
