Is the dog male or female? I would stay away from names that give a negative connotation considering the breed.
If it's a girl, a name like Vixen may not project as well as Petunia. Or you can be unique and name her Pitunia.
If it's a boy, a name like Satan may not project as well as Bubbles.

My sister's dogs had puppies and the one that I fell in love with is a male. I was considering Max but I would like a name that is not so common. this breed already has a bad repreation I do not want any names like Satan.

My Pit is named Ohm. My parents were hippies, so they gave me the middle name Moon. Don't ask what they were toking at the time, i don't even want too know. Ohm (my dog) made a huge impact on my life when he entered it, so I named him after a lunar crater on the moon named Ohm. But an Ohm is also a unit of resistance, so that derivation would suit him well too.
Too bad we can't see a pic of maybe-Max as I don't think this forum allows pics.

I probably will go with Max because he sort of looks like a Max. I can't wait till I can take him home. The only thing I'm not really looking forward to is potty training because it's been a long time sense I had a puppy in the house. All the other dogs that I had throughout my life where all older dogs and I never had to potty train them but I'm sure we will be fine.

Dr. Ian Dunbar was kind enough to post his book "Before You Get Your Puppy" free for everyone to enjoy. Page 37 begins the housetraining discussion, but the whole book is worth a read.

hmmm my brother usually base his pet's names to his pet's individual character, behavior or feature... anyway, how's cross for a name?

Piti thanks for the link I will read it! I love to watch the dog whisper so I went out and bought his book and videos. Cross is kind of a cool name.

Hmmm, I think a few good choices might be...
Capone, Atlas, Muscles, Basil, Bunyan, Lexis, Lovey, or Ricochet...for the Pit Bull that's all over the place.

doggie names
I think a dog becomes its name. I named my pit mix after the comic strip "Buckles". My husband said if we ever had another dog, he would name it Buckles. She is a very comical dog.
