How Do You Like???
Hello All,
I'm new here I have a Border Collie Cross named Ollie, she came with her name. In two weeks we are adding a 8 mth old German Shepher/Rottie her name is Lucky, but I really want to call her Spirit. She has an amazing energy about her, I would like to hear what people think about changing her name and the name Spirit itself.
Thanks and I look forward to a chat and seeing pics!
Cheers

Changing a dog's name can be a really positive thing to do - if the previous home wasn't all it should have been the old name can have bad associations and the dog will benefit from a completely new start. Years ago we had a rescue dog from a horrible home and we changed her name straight away w ith no problems at all.
As for the name "Spirit" - I would find that quite hard to use a dog's name. The soft sound at the beginning of the name doesn't command attention. To me, the whole sound is "soft" - I prefer a "firmer" sound. Don't know if I have explained it well enough but I would definitely change the name if that is what you want.

Welcome to the forum!
I see no reason not to change the name. (Unless the dog has had it's name for many years of course) But I have to agree with the above post--I do not like the name Spirit--the meaning is great but the sound is not for calling a dog. To me it would almost be like calling Sport--which I definitely don't care for. Have you tried it out by hollering Spirit several times?
If you wanted to check out a lot of names for dogs--Just put dog names or dog names/German Shepherd or the other mix (sorry forgot what it is) Put this in your browser. Lots of sites to check in to ----May find some sites that tell meaning of some of the names too.---Maybe a better name with the meaning of spirit.

Just some info and suggestions: [B][HARLEY – Dogs named Harley can be any size or shape. They often have fun personalities and like to play. They can be independent and are smart. They are as loyal to their owners as their owners are to them. Origin: Hebrew. The meaning is: Wild Spirited.
/B] Sorry, may be back with more suggestions--I had some good male ones picked out and then I realized you need girl names. Lol, just lucky that Harley works for both!

My dog's name is Lucky too! She's a 3 year old lab/pit mix girl. Spirit is a great name too. Do whatever you prefer. It's up to you!
