Default Help name my AKC Saint Bernard

We just recently put a deposit on a AKC Saint Bernard just in time for my daughter for Christmas but we are having a hard time naming him....we are wanting something to do with Indian's due to our Cherokee back ground. We need the full AKC registered name just wanting to see if you all can help us out with some suggestion!!! I can tell you he has what looks like a small lightning bolt going down his back

As one who is part native American, I have learned to watch the dog for awhile and name them based on their traits and personalities. This usually fits better in the end. Also, being an AKC breeder I require my kennel name to be the first name used on the AKC registration. Does the breeder use a kennel name?

He doesn't have a kennel name the owners told us to name it what we wanted. I like Kodah but just not sure what to place with it.

Smile Welcome to the forum!

I really don't know much about this sort of thing but my 1st thought would be to incorporate the word Cherokee in with Kodah----other words-- summer---thunder---storm.

"Koda" is the term for friend in the Dakota Sioux language, you could use in front of that "Goshe" which is the Apache word for dog. To read Goshe Koda or dog friend or reverse for friend dog.
But in either case, most native American names derived from early monitoring of the child to see what habits, traits etc they showed. Even Geronimo was not named until he was approx 5 years of age. At that point his one trait was he was always yawning, thus the name geronimo for one who yawns was given to him. In the end, the AKC name and the call name (the name that you refer to him as) are rarely the same name.
Either way, whether you get the answer you want from your request for the same on Yahoo or here, there is one thing that I usually do recommend in the end.. Name your own dog. We are not in a position to see it or be around it so in the end no matter what answers we give, they are actually redundant. I would never permit another to name something that belongs to me and am entrusted to care for.
