Customer Review: Awesome, unless your dog chews...
My PetMate Portable Pet Home came with my dog (take this dog and her little house too!). While it wasn't what I would have picked out for my pet, I've found it very useful. My Cairn Terrier loves it, lives in it, can't pull her out of it. There are enough windows in it that my dog can see everything. Two downsides: hard to carry when you have a hyperactive dog doing backflips inside it; and the door is very very easy for little terriers to chew through (the door on my pet's Pet Home is pretty much obliterated). I've had to basically reconstruct the door. For pet comfort, though, I'd give it 5 stars! For practicality, especially with terriers, it rates a bit lower.
Customer Review: Not a lot of features, but sturdy
After my cat learned how to extract herself from the top of her soft-sided carrier, I spent a good 30 minutes at the local pet supplies store examining the PetMate Portable Pet Home in the extra-small size. As a place for the cat to lounge at home - it's well constructed, with solid zippers, good quality canvas, and some of the nicest faux lambskin padding I've seen in a carrier. But as a carrier it's a little spare on the features. As is common in many other soft-sided carriers, there is no leash-loop inside the carrier (which incidentally, I don't use, but the cat likes to play with), and the mesh windows for ventilation are small compared to other brands (although it is nice that there are roll-down flaps to make the home darker and warmer). Also dissapointing was the lack of pockets around the carrier - which, as I've found in my previous carrier, are extremely useful in terms of having treats and veterinary paperwork immediately available. Also extremely useful - and *absent* in the extra-small carrier is any kind of shoulder strap/pad. But what ultimately kept me from purchasing the PetMate home was the fact that the cat can only enter from one entrance -- and I've found it convenient to be able to travel with a carrier that allows the cat to examine her surroundings with the "ceiling" or top of the carrier to be open. So it seems that I just need to find a carrier with a better constructed top-fastening system than my previous one! However - regarding this product: if you are not looking for a carrier for long-distance trips, or are primarily looking for a sturdy apt. for your pet - this might be enough for you.
