The sport of field trials is a priceless heritage that enriches the lives of the people who breed, train and campaign sporting dogs. In the United States this sport has provided pleasure for the participants since 1874, and has enriched the environment-both by developing a love for the outdoors and for animals, and by the actions of those involved in the sport to preserve the wildlife and habitats of our beautiful land. Each year, thousands of people attend field trials. There is a weekly magazine devoted solely to the sport, and field trials are an on-going, national pastime in all parts of the United States, as well as Canada, Japan, and European countries. In this program, the viewer is invited into the world of field trials, and is introduced to the main aspects of the sport. What happens at a field trial is explained and suggestions are offered for dogs owners who would like to increase the pleasure of owning a sporting dog by joining in on this great sport.
