Customer Review: Music for Ragamuffins
These guys have been there and done that. Writing from the heart with blinding talent. While I do miss the tongue in cheek sense of humor, this album caught me. This is music I would sing with my family, in the car, or listen to under the stars. These guys are among the best, and most laid back, down to earth...give 'em a listen.
Customer Review: Simple, moving work by talented artists
Lost Dogs is comprised of three "legends" in Christian rock n' roll music. Earlier albums included a fourth member, legend Gene Eugene, but this album was recorded after Gene Eugene's death. Each member brings a unique aspect to the band, and the three parts alternately work together and in contrast to create a multi-layered sound. 'Nazarene Crying Towel' is something of a different flavor for the Lost Dogs. [For an explanation of the title, read the wonderfully written liner notes. The liner notes alone go along way to recommend this album.] The band members seem to reach a little deeper into their Christian roots in these songs, with a simplier approach to song lyrics and melodies. Biblical influence is readily apparent in 'Nazarene Crying Towel,' while the songs hint at even more. For those who have loved the Lost Dogs for many years, it is important to note that this album maintains a level of seriousness that some other albums lack. Though a song or line may bring a smile, the album doesn't track into fun the way that 'Little Red Riding Hood' did. This approach doesn't detract from the album, however, and perhaps is related to the change brought by Gene Eugene's passing. This album is a 'must have' for all Lost Dogs fans, but also for someone who is looking for music with a deeper meaning. Although the songs make up a straightfoward message, they are thought provoking and tug at your emotions. This album could be thought of as a really good highway billboard. Attention getting. Easy to grasp. Means much more than can be articulated in the alloted space. Definetly worth the time and money.
