It would be best if you take the time to write down a list of pros and cons. IE:
your lifestyle and activity level, how much time at home and away daily also note if you live in an apartment or house, fenced yard etc.
Once you have done this, than by simply entering the key words best dog suited for me there will be several sites dedicated based on the criteria you have to help you select a dog that will fit your lifestyle, activity level, home situation etc.
it is never a good idea to ask strangers for their opinion as to what is the best dog breed for you, simply put ... we do not know you or your situation. Only you know this.
Good luck in your search and heartfelt condolences on your loss.

I'm very sorry for your loss. We all know how awfully hard it is to lose a beloved fur child.
As for your question, I agree with Yogi. I personally adore Shorty JRT's but just as with every other breed, they are not right for everyone. You need to consider your lifestyle and activity level, etc. and match it to whatever dog you are considering.
Good luck!
