Default Unanswered: My boxers turned into a teenager!! Help!

Milly is a nine month old boxer, and in the last 2 weeks or so, when I take her to the park and let her of the leash, she has turned into a hormonal teenager. When I call her to sit, to go back on the leash etc, she will bark running around, even jumping at you, refusing point blank to come and sit. Before this she was perfect, always coming back and sitting etc, no problem. When I do get her back, I don`t scold her, as much as my frustration wants me to literally explode!! :-x:-x

Any idea`s or help muchly appreciated

Every dog I've ever had went through the "terrible teenager" stage. You just have to wait it out. It does get better.

Smile Welcome to the forum!

Lol, and you have a boxer!! Had one once a long time ago. Don't know really what to tell you except that boxers are very playful and full of energy---Maybe lots and lots of exercise. Will quote some info from my breeds book on the Boxer---Maybe will give you some ideas.
TEMPERMENT:
Intelligent and easily trained, Boxers have been widely used in military and police work. Training should start young and be firm and consistent----these exuberant animals need to be handled by a strong adult. They are reliable and protective with children and intensely loyal to their family. Excellent watchdogs, they will restrain an intruder in the same way a Bulldog does.

EXERCISE:
An active, athletic breed, Boxers need daily work or exercise. As well as a long, brisk, daily walk, they enjoy a session of play, fetching a ball. (Regular vigorous exercise)

BE AWARE:
1.--These dogs need a strong, energetic owner to play with.
2.--May be agressive with other dogs.

Dont worry this is a normal phase in dogs. When I used to work with puppies I would train from 8-16 wks to lay the foundation, then start heavy training again at 8 mos old when they all seem to "magically" forget everything!
My recommendation to you is go back to basics. "Re-train" your boxer. Make sure when you know youre going to let her off leash, "hype her up" on YOU! Be sure to bring her favorite tug toy, or bring hot dogs.
I encourage you to not give her the "come" command if she is not listening, just reward "check ins". Whenever she comes near you reward reward REWARD! Just dont make it fun for her to run around you, make it SUPER fun when she runs TO you!
Good Luck! More tips if you need them...

Why are you continuing to answer posts that have long been answered? Members here address current concerns not ones that have already been addressed. Please also note, you do not neuter a bitch, this is what is reserved for a male dog, a bitch is spayed.
The majority of these posts you are replying to were asked by members who are no longer here.
Please refrain and address current concerns with knowledge based on experience not post count. Thank you.
