Smile Unanswered: Snug as a bug in a rug?

I've decided the best way forward for my new puppy will be to crate trane him from arrival in his new home. However, i had initially decided to put his crate under the kitchen bench in my kitchen which is close to the back door, ideal for his puppy potty training.

The problem is it can get quite cold in the kitchen and obviously wont be constantly lit up. It may be silly but im worried about my puppy freezing!

I toyed with the idea of putting a hot water bottle under his bed, but dismissed it in the event he started chewing??? Any ideas of how I can ensure my new addition is warm at night especially through winter?
He is a short legged minature jack rustle smooth coat, lol, hope that helps!

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Lorraine

I use a heating pad wrapped in a towel for bedding with my new ones. Also, to help keep heat in the crate make sure you use first only a 100 size as that is all he will ever need and cover the crate at night. In addition, feed the pup in his crate. All these help reinforce that the crate is a good place and will eventually go in to escape when he needs his rest.

You can bundle him up with warm clothes or blankets...I'm wondering if anybody ever tried using light bulbs or desktop lights like babies in incubator?

Just had this thought cause when my dad was doing his dialysis before, whenever he felt cold, the dialysis center has this light bulb like a lamp and they had that one facing my dad to keep him warm.

You can have it hanging though so the puppy doesn't play with it.

There are heated kennel pads you can buy that plug in and have different heat settings. I put a sweater on my dog when he is chilly. If it is constantly cold in that area, maybe try a different spot?

I think you'd save yourself a great deal of both worry and work if you just moved the crate to a warm part of the house. Also, cover the crate with a blanket at night to keep out any drafts.
