Unanswered: our beloved frenchbulldog/pug mix sudden death today
We are devestated -we found our 4 yr old Maile dead today no apparent trauma or health problems. There is a possibility that she ingested 1 PROIN 50 MG PILL THAT WAS FOR OUR OLDER DOG.wE DONT KNOW FOR SURE THAT SHE GOT IT-IT FELL WHEN WE WERE GIVING IT TO OUR OLDER DOG.That was a 12 noon yesterday.Maile came in and ate dinner acting quite happy and chipper as always. She went out this morning ran around no vomiting or diarrhrea. We left to run some errands came home to find her dead in the back yard. She had no trauma no nothing -she pooped just a little when she died and it wasnt diarrhea.Im so devistated and cantg stop crying! If she had gotten ahold of the Proin wouldnt she have been sik alot faster than that? She never threw up or acted lathargic at all-
Heartbroken  :cry::cry:

I'm very sorry to hear of the tragic loss of your beloved companion. You must be completely devastated.
There is no way for me to know if your baby's dealt was as a result of consuming one dose of proin. From what I've read on other posts, the dogs who were negatively affected by this drug displayed quite dramatic symptoms. However, I don't know enough about this drug to say if a dog could be asymptomatic and still die from it.
Again, I don't know for sure but, do you think it could possibly have been a heart attack? I was told by someone in my building who lost their bulldog at quite an early age that they have a tendency to develop heart problems.
The only way you will know for sure what happened to your dog is to have your vet do an autopsy. It may set your mind at ease. Again, please accept my heartfelt condolences for your loss.

How long were you gone---She may of had a seizure and you wouldn't know, as well as other symptoms. Some dogs have just dropped dead because of the proin!!Im so devistated and cantg stop crying! If she had gotten ahold of the Proin wouldnt she have been sik alot faster than that? She never threw up or acted lathargic at all- Dogs can react differently to this 'crap'. It could depend on how healthy they are--esp. concerning the condition of the liver/kidneys/immune system, etc. You may think the liver/kidneys are healthy but you wouldn't know for sure--which is why a vet is suppose to do bloodwork to determine this before giving proin! Also it could of been too high a dose for your dog. I'm sorry for your loss but (and I wasn't going to post you) but I feel I have to because your other dog is on this 'crap!' Have you read the thread in here on proin? If not, please do. It is the most read thread in here and is quite long but it may be something you should read for the sake of your other dog!! Here is the link to click on: Is your dog on PROIN? READ THIS!

Note that this CRAP was banned for human use--Too many women were having strokes because of it!!! Greedy Pharmaceutical companies are now selling it for our dogs so they can make their profit from this d**n drug!!!
Sorry, but even the mention of proin--(or rimadyl or prednisone) drive me mad---innocent dogs are being 'poisoned' and taken advantage of once again!
Can't you check where you dropped the pill? And if you had an autopsy done--It may tell you how your Maile died but dollars to donuts your vet will never tell you it was because of the proin.

First let me say how sorry I am for your loss. Each time I read that a death has occurred possibly from ProIn I relive my Jasmine's 57 days of pain and suffering after taking this drug for 5 days. If you do a search at this forum for ProIn, you will have your answer-it can kill with just one dose. I know of a greyhound that had a stroke and died after one dose. ProIn will find an underlying problem, manifest it, and cause death. I believe this. My last words to Jasmine was my promise of telling anyone who will listen about this dreaded drug,
When you can, please visit Jasmine at: Jasmine's Rainbow Residency at RainbowsBridge.com
My thoughts and prayers are with you today.
Hugs,
Cheryl and Angel Jasmine
Jasmine was loved
Jasmine took Proin
Jasmine is gone

Proin
So I have exhausted my mind-nothing has hurt so bad than to know my dog accidently ingested Proin and I didnt call anyone to make sure it wasnt toxic.I looked all over the bottle and the label the vet put on the bottle-no where did it say anything about how dangerous it was.All we know is Maile was very healthy and 16 hours after ingesting one 50mg proin pill -we found her dead. There were no noticble signs -no vomiting -no diarrhea-nothing just sudden death.I have talked to pharmacists, doctors and Vets Proin is very dangerous its only of the only medicines that would cause sudden death. The makers of Proin have claimed that under the investigation they have conducted she would have had some symtoms. Its just not true-I KNOW THIS KILLED HER-SHE WAS FINE THE NITE BEFORE-ALL OF HER VET CHECK UPS PERFECT BILL OF HEALTH-UP TO DATE ON ALL HER SHOTS.The vet of course told me it was too late to do a necrospy.Im gonna file a complaint with the board of vetinary medicine. As well as the FDA.I BELIEVE proin should be taken off the market or warning labels as well as vetinary warning before the vet prescribes it.Please contact me if you have been a victim to proin
We need to do something. At least Maile is in heaven I will have to live with this pain and guilt for the rest of my life.:She was the most angelic frenchbulldog pug-not a mean bone in her body -nothing but love-AND I GAVE HER POISON ON ACCIDENT =IT HURTS ME (

I just joined this site and I saw your post and cried!
Please don't blame yourself for this. I am sure your Maile doesn't blame you!
I didn't even know there was a drug that could kill so fast. There should have been a warning on it, or your vet should have warned you how important it was to make sure Maile didn't get one.
I am so sorry for your lost.

We will share your pain
We know this is kinda late, but we came upon your post and this forum when we were doing research about our little Frenchie, Oola. We can totally relate to your pain and this forum is helping us cope with ours. There is nothing we can say or do to take away the pain you're going through, but we can share the pain with you. We too, just lost our almost 4 yrs old Oola to a very similar sudden death this pass Sun, except we know for a fact that she didn't swallow any pills because both of our Frenchies are not on any meds. There were no sign whatsoever. She was being her happy joy joy mood as usual, playing with her sister up until about 1hr or 2hr when I looked for her and found her laying in the side of our backyard on her back, not breathing and no heart beat that afternoon. She has no previous conditions. All her checkup was fine and up-to-date. After lots of researching, we just assumed it's a heart attack or some type of heart failure and hopefully put a closure to this mystery. There is no real way of telling unless you get an autopsy, but we do not want to put here through that. It will not bring her back to us. We just wanted her to rest in peace. My wife and just wanted to share our thoughts and pain with the people who understands and will try to move on with just her older sister, Chills from this devastating lost.
We are sooo sorry for your lost.
We like to share some pictues of her.
RIP Oola.... We love you!!!

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. What a horrible experience. It is never easy to lose a loved one and though I know that there is nothing that can be said to ease your pain, know that there are people out there that are sending uplifting thoughts your way. I'm really very sorry.

I am so sorry for your loss. Please be aware that all the normal phases of grief will apply - including disbelief, anger, and self recrimination. Each emotion of yours is real. Time will help to heal the hurt and help you to focus on the fabulous memories you have. I am so sorry for your loss.
