Answered: Anyone Know What Breed *this puppy* is?
So, I have a roughly 4 1/2- 5 month old puppy. Great little guy, really hyper and energetic. He's very loving- he whines and whimpers whenever I leave the room if he can't follow me, and doesn't stop till I come home.
Anyways, I'm having trouble figuring out what breed he is, and i've had multiple ideas from multiple vets, but none of them can tell me for sure. One thing they all say though is that he looks like a pointer mix.
Anyways, any ideas are welcome. It doesn't particularly matter to me, but I'm curious nonetheless.

He's a lovely looking dog. He is very similar to my parents' dog which they were told was a springer spaniel cross Jack Russell. He looks like a springer - the same markings but his coat is smooth.

I can see German Pointer too---Maybe he is all Pointer! Where did you get him? What do you call him? Leaving you with this great link on description and many pics of this breed. Be sure to check out the 2nd page of pics. too.
You might want to check out the alphabetized listing of other breeds--Maybe you will see something that will look like your dog.:mrgreen:

Thanks for the link! It was very helpful
He may well be. One vet was saying something about pitbull to, but I just don't see it, and he doesn't have the lockjaw muscles that pits have.
His name is Shango, I rescued the poor little guy from a guy trying to sell him for 200$. I talked him down to 60$ and took the poor little guy home. He was about two weeks old at the time, so I've been trying to expose him to other dogs lately, to get the interaction and possibly have him learn some mannerisms from my friends working dog.

I have never heard that name before--good one, esp. has a good feel to it when you call his name. That guy you bought him from is a real winner--Who would take a pup away from it's mother at that tender young age--Yea I know--a greedy, money hungry, uncaring as*h*le! The pup was prob. better off away from this guy but way too young to be away from the mother and siblings. So glad you rescued him and that you are trying to socialize him--poor baby. Sounds like you make a good 'daddy!' Shango is lucky you found him--I only hope the other siblings were as lucky!

Unfortunately Pit bulls do not have lock jaws. That has been a myth for years.
His markings are similar to the Brittany as well as English Spaniels as well as the ears. Their coats though are denser. But the markings, head shape etc indicate a member of the pointer family or even similar to the American Foxhounds.
One other note, in reality Vets are the generally the last people to determine breeds of dogs. fact is they are trained to treat them but most really could not tell a mix breed from a purebred they have never treated. Even my vets will tell me this regularly. They generally rely on the owner to tell them. People assume that they are the Vets so they are suppose to know but they are actually trained in anatomy of dogs not in breeds of dogs.

Yes, looks a lot like a pointer to me. Could very well be pure bred. I do see some pit though when I look at his skull from the side (although it's not all that broad) and his ears. Here is pointer/pit mix;

The first thing I thought of when I saw him was German shorthair pointer. I don't think he is purebred though. If he is, he is a poorly bred one.

If I wasn't told so, I would think they were the same dog.
