Not sure what reason you want this---whether you want a dog that likes to swim for example? If so I would of said Golden Retriever as they like the water but see you want a dog no heavier than 25# in your other post. I have a book on breeds that gives info on the dogs. The only thing I come up with is either the toy poodle at 6-9 lbs and up to 11 inches high (shoulder down) or the minature poodle at 15-17 lbs and 11-15 inches high------"---------". It was originally used in Germany and France as a retriever of water fowl. Will quote from my book about the Minature Poodle: TEMPERMENT: Considered by many, the most intelligent of all breeds, the poodle makes a very good watchdog for its size, seldom becoming aggressive. It has a great sense of fun, loves to play and will feel slighted if left out of family activities. Although they adore water and love to go for walks, Poodles are not demanding as far as exercise goes. They will, however, keep in better spirits and be fitter if given regular opportunities to run and play off the leash. A long-lived breed.

Get a Jack Russel. Make sure you keep a little doggie life jacket on hand just in case you need it.

Weren't Schipperkes bred for boating? Or at least bred by boating people, and used as boat dogs.

It says this in my breeds book: The name possibly derives from the Flemish for "little boatman," because Schipperkes (pronounced skipper-keys) were popular watchdogs on Belgian barges, keeping rats and mice in check. They are probably related to the Groenendael, a Belgian Shepherd Dog. unquote---You will prob. find more on this breed in the link I gave you in my 1st post above.
Click on this for more info on the Schipperke:
Schipperke Information and Pictures, Schipperkes Be sure to note the paragraph on Origin and best note the Temperament section too--Sounds like they can be a problem if not taught that you are 'top dog'--needs a firm hand! Sure is a cute dog though!
