They're unsafe? I though it was just the skins.

I prefer home made food, is more trusted since I make it myself. It is also enjoyable, you will like cooking for your dogs

Orijen Regional Red is by far the best kibble I've come across.

I feed Innova. Some breeds are protein sensitive and may not do well on high protein diets as do individual dogs. I'm seeing what happens over the next few generations with the raw and holistic diets based off of raw (high protein) and particularly watching to see if things like bone and joint issues like CHD start climbing again and things like renal issues go through the roof. For now I stick with what I know works well. We also had the wonderful opportunity to miss the recalls with Natura foods. :-)
Raw, holistic and pre-made, protein level are all up to you and what you think is best but something other than what you can buy in the grocery store or like SD ( ) and higher quality is best. You can check out and compare brands on the dog food analysis site and if you type born free usa what's really in pet food into a search it should pull up a page that explains how to read a bag of dog food.

Too much protein isn't an issue whatsoever with a raw diet. High levels of protein are great for dogs as long as the protein comes from high quality meat protein. High protein levels coming from corn for instance would be a problem, not coming from a high quality meat source. Furthermore, a raw diet contains a high amount of moisture, unlike kibble which is dehydrated.

I just wanted to add that I have had good luck with Blue Buffalo as well as Taste of the Wild.

I choose Innova
My 6 month Shepherd gets tinned and dry Innova for Large Breed Puppies. I also give him some red meat Evo in small amounts mixed in that is for all life stages. There are other brands as good I am sure, but this is my choice. I also feed him Nature's (or is it Natural?) Treats by Blue Seal that I can only locate at Agway. The natural ingredients in the wonderful treats are part of the reason for my dog food choice as I didn't want to feed him a treat that contains berries along a a food that contains the same.

Best Food for Dog
I feed both my chihuahuas a raw diet - a combo of raw meaty bones, and commercially prepared raw diets (Nature's Variety and Tollden Farms). They've both done wonderfully on the above diets since I moved them over. My pup has only been fed raw and is quite fit and healthy.

Raw
@ fidget: Yes it seems to me Raw or the BARF diet is the best. It's not something I'd made the effort to do but would be well able for it one day. I absentmindedly forgot about that diet when posting! Silly me.
I am new here, is it just me or is everyone getting an annoying number of redirected new pages and other popups? Nasty biz that.

Best Dog Foods
In my opinion, Blue Buffalo and Orijen are the best foods out there. They are expensive relative to some other brands but they have really high end ingredients and seem to be very tasty as well.
