Smile Answered: Question for ye all!

I have boutght a book recently author jan fennell english dog listener. Its all about Amichien Bonding, If any of ye know about this, dog owner must be pack leader and all that. I,ve tried it but it didnt work on everything but it did improve dogs behaviour too some extent. My question if anyone knows of this training and if so what do you think of it? Is it needed for some dogs? or do you think that it causes dog to be some bit depressed because when meeting dog you have to ignore dog for 5 mins so the dog knows your pack leader. It means dog is not allowed to jump up on you or be in your space if not asked by owner! Would appreciate all yeir opinins because i not sure about it. I do know my cavalier was hyper prior to trying dog listeners training but i dont know does it cause a depressed dog

I wouldn't say that that type of training causes a dog to become depressed, I think it just calms the dog down and little and let's him or her know who is in control. Much like children, dog need boundaries and need to know their limits, because at the end of the day, the parent or owner needs to be in control. Personally, I loves when my dog jumps up on me. I have trained her not to jump on others though. Although this may be confusing for her at first, she eventually will understand when it is and is not appropriate to (in this case) jump up. It's hard though when you encourage the dog to jump on you, but scold him when he jumps on others. You must be very diligent and consistent when training the dog so he truly understands that he may jump on you but no anyone else. Again, this may be more difficult than nipping the behavior all together, but if you love when he jumps up on you it's worth a shot. I do not believe that being in control as the pack leader makes your dog depressed, but merely makes the dog understand that you are in control and that he should respect you. As long as you show the dog tons of TLC but still act as a leader when necessary, everything will be just fine and the dog will be plenty happy. Remember, much like a parent, you don't always want to be best friends with your kids all the time. At times it's appropriate, but at other times it isn't, and you must act as a leader and set boundaries to let the child/dog know you are in control.
