Unanswered: What type of mix is my dog?
I was told ridgeback/ shepard, but im not so sure..... He is very active, we are still triaining but he listens fairly well so far, he is crate trained, which is good because he loves to chew. I havent found any toys he cant eat as of yet. He does love squeeky stuffed animals but actually he doesnt eat those. He doesnt eat carpet or furniture, but mostly paper and pens, and my sons stuffed animals. cooper.jpg

cooper 3.jpg He wasnt around many people or dogs before we got him, so we had some work to do there, but once he got used to it he is pretty good around him. when he is tense or excited the hair on is spine stands straight up. And once he meets a person once he never barks at them again so that is a good thing. Overall hes a great dog, but a lot of work

First of all hello and welcome to the forum!
Your dog is def. mostly ridgeback but I don't actually think Shepherd is the only other thing in him if he has any in him at all. The reason I say this is because of the tail. THe must be mixed with a breed with more of a fluffy, curling tail.
Maybe he has some shiba or maybe even some spitz.

Okay, I agree with Todd about it being part Rhodesian Ridgeback! Lol, I missed the part where you said his hair on his back stood straight up when excited! The ears don't look that much like a Ridgeback either (At least not the pics in my breeds book). How old is this dog--Is he full-grown? If he is--he has to have a mix of a smaller dog because the Ridgeback male weighs 80-90 lbs. So maybe he does have some Basenji? He has the tail and facial features of a Basenji. Some other breeds that you might want to check out that have 'that' tail--Shiba Inu-(only weighs 20-30 lbs though)---Akita-weighs 75-120 lbs!--height(shoulder down)= 26-28 inches. The Chinese Shar Pei has that tail type and weighs 40-55 lbs. and is 18-20 inches tall (shoulder down) Lol, with a dog with more than 1 breed (could even have a mix of 3 breeds!) hard to say about some of the features-Could look like either breed or something in between! He is a handsome guy though whatever he 'all' is!
To check out these breeds -- http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/index.htm --Go to top and find words all breeds-click it and continue from there.
NOTE: I am not the best on using a computer but I recently figured out why, LOL, I think)some of these posts are so wide (as this thread is) Maybe you are aware of this and want your post to be extra wide. If you don't--Try checking out 'the littlle handled magnifying glass with the + centered in it--It is in lower right-hand side of my computer--bottom bar and to the right of it will be a number indicating the % of the size of your post. Could be 100%-which is good or could be 150% (Too much!--good for pics though but hard to follow the message) There is a little black 'triangle'-v--to click on to change that if you want. Hey! Maybe you are a computer whiz---Not me--I am self-taught! (When you put your curser on that symbol--It says Change zoom level)
Just realized that the one pic (maybe all 3?) was taken last June--7 to 8 months ago! Is he bigger now and changed any since then!?

Doggie DNA
Your dog really seems to be a Ridgeback/Shepard but its impossible to tell for sure. I know a few people who have bought the $60 DNA test from BioPet at Petco for $60, swabbed their doggies cheek and then got the results. The only problem is, sometimes the results are different from what you'd expect and can be a little disheartening if you feel you've been douped.
