Unanswered: Wondering what type of dog I adpoted
Hi everyone-
I am new here and adopted a little puppy the day after Christmas from a shelter. She had been abandoned on a woman's farm who turned her in to the shelter. I thought she was a lab/shepard mix but am not too sure. Any guesses would be helpful. I think she is about 4-5 months old now and is 45 lbs. Not sure how big she will get. She is a sweet little girl and seems really smart. Thanks very much. Brad

Hi. Welcome to the forum! I'm not the best breed guesser on the forum but, I'm wondering by the colour and shape of her face if there might be some boxer in her.
She's a beautiful girl!

Hello and welcome to the forum! Glad to have you!
I can def. see why you would guess lab/GSD mix. Def. has somewhat of a lab's tail. As far as boxer goes, I could def. see some of that too. Looks like there could be a little bit of Bullmastiff although your pup isn't that big. There still could be some in it though.
Regardless, very good looking doggie!

Hi Todd-
I was wondering about the mastiff part too. I have never had a mastiff or have really even seen one but I have had a couple of people while walking asked said the same thing.
Just thought I would put it out there to see since what others thought. I had a boxer a long time ago so do see some resemblance to that as well. She winges a bit like a boxer. Not as hyper though and she doesn't really bark at all. Thanks for the comments.

Based on the facial markings and the ears especially, she looks to have some Mastiff in her. She looks similar to a few dogs on a site I saw where they nicknamed the mix Mastador. For mastiff and Lab mixes. The ears do not lay like labs but are more like that of a Mastiff, less button eared.

Brad,
I'd your pup is a Labrador/mastiff cross here is a cool website about this mixed breed specifically. As Yogi said, they're called the Mastador. Although your pup may not be a true Mastador (it may have more breeds in it) this link should still be helpful nevertheless;
Mastador.com
Here's another cool site;

Hello, not exactly sure what your dog's breed is. But there are some mastiff qualities to her. Btw, she's beautiful!

Thanks Yogi, Todd and Rayter. Thanks for the links too.
There were 3 puppies that were abandoned on this ladies farm and they kept them in a barn for a few weeks and then turned them into the shelter. The one siblings was definetly a black lab but am not sure about the third one. This one looked so different. The farm owner said the one I adopted was a big lap dog more so than the other two. He didn't want to give her up but already had 4 dogs.
I lost my last dog suddenly in Oct of ten years and she was a Shepherd/lab mix and I was looking for a similiar type of dog. From what I have been reading if she is part Bullmastiff then they are very sweet dogs and we all know labs are sweet so it seems like a good mix to me.
The boxer I had was a boxer/pit bull mix and although she was sweet to me the older she got the more aggressive she got toward strangers.
Thanks for all the info and kind words.
Brad

Oh, I'm so sorry about loosing your last dog. It's really hard to loose your best friend. Hopefully your new dog with help to fill that piece that's probably been missing in you since October. Good luck and I'm sure the two of you will be great for one another!
