Unanswered: What kind of breeds do you think puppies are
Hi Everyone,
I'm enjoying reading your posts and seeing the pics of all dogs.
I adopted 2 puppies from a rescue about 7 months ago. I got them specifically because I have a 14yr. old Boston Terrier who has heart disease and we almost lost him several times this year (and then, after meds, he bounced back).
So, I wanted to get puppies to have my Boston help train them because he's such a great dog. He did take them right in and I think they have given him new life!
Ok, I was told they were Boston Terrier/Chihuahua mixes. when I picked them up, they were so small, they kept them apart from the other puppies because of their size. I have an illness that makes my muscles weak and wanted something smaller I could walk easily or carry as the disease progresses.
Anyhow, making this too long, so all of a sudden at about 3 months old, their coats changed color (before, I thought they were brindle like my Boston) and one's coat even had a second coat and texture. This was my first clue they weren't Boston.
Now, they are almost twice the size of my Boston. Cute as a button.
Oh, also, they were with 2 other puppies when rescued from a Breeder and the breeder said they were all brothers and sisters; but I even question that now although, they are inseparable. the breeder raised chihuahuas; bostons; MinPins; and a few other smaller dogs. But the way they look, makes me wonder MinPin or did a German shepard show up somewhere (their coat colors).
A few things; they love to stay out (I got them when freezing cold and they did not like that until their coats grew in...who would)! They do like to dig a bit like they only dig down about 10 inches along the rabbit trails we have. but they don't dig to get out of the fence. They are extremely high jumpers.
I'm 5'7", they can hit my face with a lick! Tryng to train them not to jump on people has been the hardest part of training. (which makes me think terrier of some kind).
sorry, so much info, but personality can show some traits; here's some pics, let me know what you think. I would love to know because I think it would help me understand their personality in training better.

They could potentially be brother and sister. You've got to remember that when a litter is of mixed breeds one may be quite a bit different looking than the other. I used to have a cat who came from a litter (with only one father) and all the cats looked like they had a meduim legnth coat and were more of a tanish brown color while my cat that my mom adopted was completely black with a shorter, sleeker coat. Different members of the litter may inherit different genes from each parent. It is possible though that they had different fathers and the same mother if they were from the same litter. It is possible for a female dog to be inpregnated by 2 separate males at the same time and carry/deliver both sets at the same time. The darker colored one obviously looks a lot more like a chihuahua than the other which more resembles the boston. Because of their size as you explained, I'd be willing to bet that they have something else in them as well. Anyone else see some pit possibly? Seems like we say that a lot don't we? But I really do think I see some looking at the skulls, especially the lighter colored one. I really don't see the min pin or shepherd.
They are very cute though!

Thanks Todd. I was thinking more like a hunting dog in the blonde one but he does have extra skin wrinkles (a few) on the sides of his face. I hope no Pit Bull, we have laws here about that, but I did get them in another state in an area they hunt in a lot, so the way he acts and stands is why I thought a hunting hound.
It's fun to guess! I can't afford to DNA them, but perhaps someone will recognize some traits.

Where are you from? If any pit it's not that much and I didn't think there were any laws against pit mixes are there? No one would ever know regardless. Pits are actually somewhat of hunting dogs as well. They have a high prey drive.

the other thing to remember is that there could easily be more than one sire responsible for a litter so feasibly, they could have breeds from multiple fathers in there. They do not look to be sister and brother per se but could have come from one dam and with multiple sires of different or separate breeds, they will not necessarily resemble each other.

Thanks Yogi and Todd,
Never thought of them coming from different sires.
Todd,
I live right outside of Wichita, Kansas and they have a law against Pit Bulls but they have brought up the thought of Pit Bull Mixes also. (I think they are overreacting...but I don't think that will fly).
I've been trying to train them to walk, the blonde (skiddles) actually seems so uninterested in it and is so nervous until he gets back to the back yard. Yesterday was our first encounter with someone on a bike, and they went wild and did remind me of chihuahua's reactions to strangers.
who knows...I don't! LOL

Dogs afriad when leaving the house is a common issue and has been addressed here on the forum several times before. Here's a link to a thread which should help with this issue. Key is positive exprience and association;
Walking on Leash

They are so cute. I see what you mean about the resemblance to a German shepherd! How I don't know. The other looks like it may have Husky in it, but I'm no dog breeder, just an opinion. They are both gorgeous though
