Answered: Help identifying my new dog
Please check out my photo album....
Her name is Cricket. We've had her only two days. She's just over a year old and weighs about 6lbs. Her hair is almost wooly. The original owner said she was a Shih Tzu which obviously she is not. The original owner shaved her down before selling her...she was very dirty when we first saw her.
She has many of the traits of a Shih Tzu. She doesn't shed and is very gentle and good with people. My wife swears she is a Shih Tzu cross. Any clue as to what mix she may be?

Since she has been shaved--Will be hard to know what she looked like before and speaking of such (shaving)--when the hair grows back it may not even be the same ever again! I am guessing some Japanese Chin but not pure, must have more than 1 breed there. Maybe she is part Shih Tzu too but the tail, coloring, weight and length of body and even some of the facial features make me think Japanese Chin is part of her make-up. The ears have me stumped (some kind of terrier?)
Am leaving you a link to pics and info on the Japanese Chin: Chin Information and Pictures, Japanese Spaniel, Japanese Chin Be sure to scroll all the way down as the ads in middle kind of make you think it is done.
A link to the Shih Tzu (pics): http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/shihtzu.htm
It could very well have some Shih Tzu if while looking at these pics-you picture her what she might of looked like before all the hair was shaved. And may even be a designer dog! I saw a pic of a designer dog that reminds me of yours. See esp. the 3rd pic in this link: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/shichi.htm

I agree with Barb. Mostly looks like a chin/shih tzu mix. Anyone else maybe see a tad bit of wired haired jack russell in there???

I never put much solace in vets knowing positively a mix breed. Fact is most vets will be honest and tell you they are not an authority on breeds but on the medicine of veterinary care. Unless they are a breeder themselves, realistically they are prone to guessing like most. Until we see this dog with a full coat to see how it grows out, there is really no way unless you are willing to pay for a DNA test. Even then, they can be incorrect.

Me too!!! I never even thought of that particular breed until I met Kim (my breeder). Now, I'm truly addicted to them and would get more if I could afford them!!!
