Default Unanswered: Dog acting weird after getting groomed

My dog Izzie has been acting really weird since going to a different groomer a week ago. They shaved her private area alot closer and alot more.

She will sit down and then get up and turn around real weird, especially if she is leaning over trying to eat.

She is not bleeding i see nothing abnormal other than they shaved her closer and more than her regular groomer does.

anyone have any ideas?

Does she lick at the area? Could potentially be itching due to the close cut I would assume. Are you sure there is no cut there? even a little scratch or irritation? Is the area smell strangely or look swollen at all? Any discharge? This could indicate an infection in which case I'd take her to the vet.

I know she isn't cut or at least i don't see anything and she sleeps next to me and i don't smell anything. Other than the acting weird when trying to sit down she acts fine.

mmmmm... As I said could be just an itch or irritation after grooming. If that's the case everything should be fine. I'd keep an eye on her and if things don't improve in a week or so I'd take her to the vet.

Sure, no problem! There could still potentially be an infection or other issue with the specific area. She could have caught this by the grooming tools which may not have been properly cleaned after grromign a previously infected dog. Here are a few links if interested;

Vaginitis in Dogs

Female dog problems

As I aid though, it may be nothing much at all but irritation or an itch so let things be for the next week and if things don't improve and pretty much resolve, then take her to the vet.

In the meantime, if itching may be the issue, here are some natural methods to soothe the area/relieve the itch I found online...

Baking Soda Comes in Handy

If vaginal itch is present, especially before the onset of your menstrual cycle, take these precautions with baking soda and warm water. Combine 2 tbsp of baking soda with a quart of warm water and use as a douche. Douche the first time right before your menstrual cycle when symptoms usually appear. After, douche twice a day as long as symptoms are present. Only use the douche when there are symptoms of vaginal itching.

Using the right soap when it comes to vaginal itching is a prevention measure and can aid at the onset of vaginal itching. If you are susceptible to vaginal itching, use soaps that are mild like soaps used to bathe infants. Also use infant soaps at the onset of vaginal itching and continue using until vaginal itching subsides.

Apply Ice of warm water to the area or alternate for relief.

Apple Cider vinegar (about 1-2 tablespoons) diluted in warm water (approx a cup) and used as a topical wash on the vulva and in the vagina. It will sting initially, likely, but this will subside as it begins to work. Usually 2-3 applications will take care of the itching and possibly even one dose is enough.

To treat itching:- apply coconut oil. Castor oil is a better option to relieve from itching. Keep the area dry. For instant remedy, you can apply plain yogurt in the area. It stinks on the knickers.. so apply perfume on your outer clothes. It kept me going for 7 to 8 hours. If it itches again, clean the area and apply plain yogurt again. And..Of course, change your knickers.

For oral consumption to treat itching: Take 3 tablespoon of fenugreek powder (ground fenugreek seeds). Put it in half a cup plain yogurt. Add loads of sugar (honey is even better) as fenugreek powder is bitter in taste. Eating this mixture produces good bacteria to attack the ones causing the itching. Eat this mixture atleast once a day.

*BTW, could the issue be due to getting some soap in there? Was she bathed at the groomers as well?

I'd agree with the previous advice, just keep an eye on the area and make sure there's no rash type irritation. If there's no redness or irritation then maybe she's just getting used to the new cut and the difference in how it feels. Just keep an eye on her

Could be. Here's some info from the web...

Yes, dogs can get in-grown hairs. I would at least call the vet to get an antibiotic ointment suitable for dogs to put on them after she opens them up. An open sore, especially around the mouth, on dogs is a germ magnet & a perfect opportunity for parasites to get it and take hold. I'm not sure if there is any safe way to prevent it from happening again so I would also ask your vet.

To remove them, try using a warm, wet compress to bring the hair to the surface, if she will let you. It is best to use tweezers once you can see the hair. If you squeeze or dig, you can damage the hair follicle and this will only result in more ingrown hairs.

Ingrown hairs look like a small bump or boil. Here is a pick of what one may look similar to...

If this could be the issue I'd follow the advice provided and contact your vet.
