The fact is, until this pup reaches approx 6 to 8 months of age it will be nothing more than guessing. It simply is too young to be sure of anything at this time. The pup will develop during the next several months which will start to show more physical traits that would allow for a proper evaluation of breed or breeds.
Cute little though....

I'm useless at this sort of thing so I won't even hazard a guess. She looks ever so small though - how old is she?

Your puppy is soo cute!! Congrats!! I have to agree with everyone else... ur puppy could look quite different once she gets closer to full grown. If ppl see pics of my pup when she was 8 weeks old and now, shes 10 months now, they think its two different dogs. Have fun with your new puppy though!

I will agree as well. As someone asked before, how old is the dog? It is just going to be guesses for now as Yogi said but age is very important in this situation so we can associate the age with the dog's size...

Very cute though!

Thank you all for your responses. This forum is awesome for help! In answer to your questions, she was born on April 8th. I rescued her from an Indian Reserve. The litter born previously were all eaten by either cougar or coyotes, so I thought I had better save this little girl before anything happens. The vet says she is perfectly healthy and should grow into a med large size. He can't be sure until she is six months. I'm sure I'll have more questions to ask as this is my first puppy. I'm already loving having her around.

In that case the dog is still very, very young so it looks like some sort of large or giant breed mix to me. It's not bad sized for only 4 weeks old. I'd say maybe some Akita which was mentioned earlier. anyone else see maybe a bit of Huskey or Malamute in there? Maybe not the Huskey because of the broader face but I though I'd throw it out there.

She is pretty big for only 4 weeks! So cute though! I wonder how big she'll get. And I love the name Emma. Congrats on your new puppy

Default DNA will tell you

Hi, If you have a Petsmart near you they offer a DNA test that can tell you what breeds contribute to your dogs make up. Takes most if not all the guessing out of it.

OMG what a sweetie.:-D

Right now it is very hard to tell. And since she is 6 weeks, you will really need to socialize her.

I have a nephew who lives on a reserve. And I can't tell you the mixes I have seen on it. You can have a female who is say lab/gsd/cattle dog and a male who is collie/lab/rottie. So when they mate, you get a heinz 57. Some reserves have their own breed. Off hand I know of one called the American Indian Dog. They are gorgeous.

I know the vet has stated she is healthy, but have you had any blood work done to be sure? I would do it to check for any parasites, which a vet can't tell by just looking at her.

I would be sure to have her checked for heatworm too. The symptoms don't always immediately make them selves obvious.
