Unanswered: what is she?
i have found a dog at my mother's house that seems to have been walking for quite some time. I took her home bathed her and got a few ticks off of her then put some flea tick med on her. Her paws are raw and she has a few scrapes and bruises but she'll be fine with her hopefully new home but i have no idea what breed she is. We are thinking she is an Akita mix of some kind just judging form my experience but she seems way too small. she had a thick coat and I'm attaching a pic. She's about 6 inches shorter than my 7 month old boxer. help!

I'm not very good at this but, could there maybe be a little Chow in her?

well i would agree but no black tongue not tall enough and not enough fur... i'll post another pic later as well thanks for the help not denying that the chow may be in there but it's not too prominent... also we are thinking maybe a little miniature collie or corgi

Just because the dog doesn't have as long of a coat or black tounge doesn't mean it can't be mixed with some chow. Remember, this is a mix and not a purebreed so certain characteristics are and are not inherited from both the mother and father. I can maybe see a little corgi. Not sure about the collie.

I'd have to agree with the akita/chow/maybe a little corgi mix guesses. Just like Todd said, the dog can inherit different characteristics so you can't rule out the chow based on those alone. I'm also glad you rescued her! That's great of you. make sure to get those ticks out! My dog has picked up a few here and there and I've found a few on me after words. Yuck!!

Hmmmm, this is a bit of a toughy. I'm looking at the ears and trying to figure what breeds have the short ears. Husky. Shiba Inu. And yes Akita. I do see some Akita.
As for the Chow, they actually have a "purple" tongue. Many people think that if a dog has black on the tongue that they have chow in them. One of my GSD"s has a couple of black spots. But it's actually like birthmark.
Just a couple of questions. Have you taken her to the vet to see if she is microchipped? Have you put up posters stating you have found a dog? This may be a family dog that went missing.

like i said before i wasn't saying she couldn't have any chow in her so yes i understand that they may not be prominent features like i had also already said but as to the posters and stuff we just got her yesterday so we are working on the posters now but she seems to like to just run so I'm not too sure she has a family. i talked to someone who had see her nearby the morning before so that is where we will start the search. if we cannot find her original home we already have a new home set up for her. =)

I would put the posters everywhere. This includes stores and even vet clinics. Her running doesn't really mean she doesn't have a family. Maybe she is trying to find them. Have you checked your local paper? The lost and found part? Maybe even put in an ad.
I know is I lost any of my dogs, I would hope whoever found them would do everything in their power to find me. But then again it would be easy to find me. Mine are chipped and have tattoos.
I would give it a week or two before you send her to a new home.

we are trying but having a dog of our own is making our little apartment a bit tense. she has been an only spoiled child and is not sitting comfortably with the change but is dealing with it. so hopefully we find her home soon =D

ahhhhhhhh I see. I can understand you situation. Could you maybe have a friend keep her for a while?
How is she with your dog? Does she seem well behaved?

can't find anyone to keep her and she's fine with my dog but my boxer just stares at her intently, hasn't let her eat until now, and had been snubbing us since we brought her in. she is just now starting to act a little normal but you can still see the jealousy in her eyes. we have been giving her extra attention but as soon as we touch the stay she stars you down lol.

She's trying to figure her out. I can imagine what your dog is thinking. We are NOT keeping this thing. LOL
Well I hope you are able to find the owner.
