Unanswered: New Dog Owner
This coming saturday I will be picking up my very first dog, Loopy Lou (Loopy) from the Dogs Trust in Evesham, UK. Im very excited about it as its been a long eight years convincing my fiance to get a dog, but the wait has been worth it.
As we were walking around the center we were keen on looking for small to medium dogs and were very open on the breeds. I had a couple in mind as were walking around but my fiance wasnt so keen. We were almost ready to leave the center and I spotted to dogs been walked by volunteer walkers. One of them being Loopy. I ran over to them and asked if she had been reserved, hoping that she hadnt. The walker didnt know anything about her history or whether she had been or not, so I ran into the office and got the good news I was hoping for. She had been in the center only a few hours after being returned by some previous owners who had only had her a month.
She is 1 year old as far as the center can tell and was found as a stray before being homed for the first time. She was perfect for us. I reserved her right away and took her out for a walk to get to know her. She was mad as a hatter, hence her new name, bounding around, jumping up and down and getting in for cuddles.
As you can tell by the photo's she is a Lab, but she is also a cross. The center aren't sure exactly what she is crossed with but her size is very petite, even if the photo's dont really show that. I'd like some help to find out what she is crossed with as Im sure that at a year old, a Lab should be much bigger in size.
Please say hello to Loopy. :-P

My only far-out guess is vizsla---See this link: Vizsla Information and Pictures, Vizslas [/url] Be sure and check out the many pages on this breed. Note that color of nose is the color of your dog's nose.

Very cute! Glad you rescued her!
She's not too small for a lab. Some labs are that short. labs are medium to large breeds and can vary in size. I still odn't think she's a pure breed though. her color is a bit different. More like a golden, but the coat isn't as long. I see some pit possibly. My dog is most liklely a pit/lab mix and looks a lot like your dog, only she is black.

I guess the reason I thought she was short is because Ive never seen a lab so small before at that age. Ill measure her and weigh her on saturday to give you a better idea of her stats. Is there anything I could do to give you guys a better understanding of her breed?

Congrats on Loopy! That's such a cute name. and I love that you have her middle name Lou. I give all my girl dogs middle names haha. She does look like a decent sized lab mix. Maybe the pictures are just deceiving though.

Here's a short video I took whilst visting her on Sunday. Excuse the silly laugh I do near the end. I wouldve taken a longer video but the iPhone died on me.
As my post count is low i cant post links so if you would like to see it;
go to youtube
type in "gooba007" and search
on the first video, click by "gooba007" and it should open up my videos, the latest being Loopy.

Well, she is thin so that may be why she appears smaller. There are some full grown labs that are her height, just quite a bit heavier. The extra weight seems to make them appear like a bigger dog. Still is probably a mix though.

Picked up Loopy today and she is an absolute gem. She's currently laying in her basket having a little nap next to the sofa. We've done some crate training and dome basic training whilst walking. She's settling in nicely. Just hope she's ok when we go to sleep. I will post more pictures when i get on my laptop.

Sorry! I have to ask--Are you sure you got her height right (shoulder down)? She looks taller than that---My cocker is about that height. If she is only 16 and 1/2 inches tall--Can't find any breed she looks like with that height!!
