Unanswered: Can anyone tell me why my dog wants to destroy her toys?
My Dog Mia is always trying to destroy her toys how do I get her to stop this behaviour?.I used to buy real soft toys but she tears it to threads now buy harder soft toys that she can't rip the seams out to get to the stuffing inside it.

Lol, Good luck with getting an answer that will work to that question! My married daughter and I were just talking about that today. My Corky (cocker/golden retriever mix) always had to rip the seams open too--never really wanted to play with toys--just tear them apart! My pure cocker would never do that and in fact prefers to carry soft toys in his mouth (kind of like a pacifier/keep his mouth around something) when he gets excited or when greeting someone at the door (including me when I come home from shopping). My daughter and I were shopping today and she bought another toy for her pup (boxer/bulldog or pitbull mix) and was saying I wonder how long before he destroys this one. I said 'why did you buy it?' This was one of those pretty sturdy braided 'things'--pull toy type. She said (lol) Well this one has 3 knots in it instead of just the 2! Lol, not only does her dog rip the seams out of the other kind of toy but this dog actually undoes the knots! So, I guess there are 2 kind of dogs--the ones that like to destroy and the ones that just like to play or pacify with them. Lol, I have yet to call my daughter to see how long this new toy lasted--most were destroyed in half an hour. I think with Corky it was more like 5 or 10 mins but these were the toys with seams. He never paid attention to the knotted toys!
Hey! Just realized --her dog is named Mia too!

mmmmm. I'm not too sure. It hard because it's a natural instinctual type fo thing. Some dogs just naturally have stronger jaws and drive than others. I can only recommend getting much tougher toys from the store they don't have the stuffing ot soft build. They have toys which are virtually indestructable. Check the selection out.

I've got a wrecker and a carrier - Ojo will do her best to "kill" her toys. Manny, who has the highest prey drive I have seen in any of my dogs (and I've had Jack Russells for the past 30 years) has never chewed anything, just likes to carry soft things in his mouth. It's just a way of playing for so many dogs. Also, thinking back to all the dogs we've had as a family since I was child - not one of them has been a carrier like Manny. Every other dog - including our retriever who is a soft mouthed breed - would rip into a stuffed toy given half a chance.
Yet I dare not let Manny loose in rabbit country because he would be off like a shot!

My dog destroys her toys so i just buy her super strong toys that do not have stuffing.. Also i stay away from tennis balls because she plucks them, its very annoying. I even got her a plastic ball with a handle and it was originally designed for horses and she still tore it apart. But extra strength kongs are handy and also nylabones, for extreme chewers are handy.. beyond that u just have to try different toys that u think might work. Good luck

I think its just her natural instinct. My dogs do the same thing, but it's not something I'm concerned over because it is their toys and something they are allowed to chew on. I'd just get tougher toys like everyone recommended. Big rope toys as well as the rubber tire type ones work well for my dogs!
