Unanswered: Help!! My puppy doens't follow me when I walk him ouside on leash!!
My pupy is now 13 weeks old. He's very stubborn and never follows me when i walk him outside. He just sits there and sometimes lies down. I always carry treats and his favorite toys when i walk him, but he loses interests in the treats and toys that he loves when he's inside house. I gave him a tug on the leash and asked him to come using either soft or firm tone, but he just sat there and didnt' move. He moved and seemd so happy when the other dogs or people passed by and he followed those people, but NOT me!
how can i make him follow me?!?! He walked a few steps and i said 'good boy' and gave him treats and then he sat there again andidn't move.. It's a little bit frustrated for me cos he sometimes sits in the middle of the streets and cars stopped there just waited for me to carry my puppy.. He's already 30 lbs and will grow really big soon. When he's fully grown, he will be heavier than me. How can i train him to follow me???

This is going to sound really stupid - but it's no more stupid than carrying a 30lb puppy who is refusing to walk LOL If you have a flexi lead put the lead on the dog and walk. Ignore him. When you get to the end of the lead and he is sitting at the other end keep your back to him and get down on the ground and make a fuss about it. Make happy, excited sort of noises and I can almost guarantee that the puppy will be so intrigued that he will come and see what you are looking at. When he gets close to you just get up and walk on. If he follows, great. If he doesn't, do the same thing again. You might only want to do it a couple of times in a session - it does look a bit daft - a grown adult on hands and knees looking at the tarmac of a blade of grass, but it does encourage the dog to walk on the lead.
When we went to puppy class the trainer demonstrated it to us. All the dogs were off lead in the paddock and she said she could get them all to come to her without calling or whistling. We had to ignore the dogs and talk amongst ourselves while she sad down on the grass and started looking at a daisy. Within minutes the whole class were sitting round her and she just got up and walked away while they followed.

You might try enrolling in an obedience class before he gets too much older too so he'll learn as young as possible. The money would be well worth it in the long run.

Sorry I can't help! Todd posted a great website on the whole "Alpha" thing and getting a dog to respect and obey his owner. I can't believe how much it helped me in getting my dog to walk along with me. I can't post links yet, not enough posts of my own. You might try a search on "Alpha".

I agree with the other answers but I have a few questions...'
Could the dog hate the hot weather or pavement? Does the dog show fear? Any other info we should know?
