Default Unanswered: What to do for Bee Sting??

I think Gracie just got stung by a bee on her paw... She was outside and yelped and is now licking her paw. Is there anything that I should do??? I feel so bad for her...

Lucky got stung years ago and her face swelled all up. The vet directed us to give her benadryl and left it at that. if the foot very swollen? If it isn't or not much don't worry about using any meds. If it's just a simple bee sting I would examine the area to make sure the stinger is not still stuck on the paw. If it is try to remove it with a pair of tweezers. I have read that it is smart to bathe or apply the stung area with a solution of baking soda and water. This apparantly brings out the stinger to the surface and get rid of any possible toxins. This has also been said to reduce stinging/itching. Put a cold ice pack on the area to reduce swelling. I'd say 5 minutes at a time every half hour or so until any swelling has gone down. Obviously make sure the dog is breathing alright, isn't too swollen, isn't sick, or isn't disoriented because this could indicate an allergiv reaction in which case you'd want to get to the vet asap.

As far as the stinging goes this shouldn't be too bad for much longer. Once the stinger is removed and the ice pack is applied everything should be just fine being that this was only one single sting to my understanding. Here are some other remedies that may help if your dog still seems to be in pain I found online...

"Make a paste of meat tenderizer and water or baking soda and water–apply to bite area.

Sprinkle the bite area generously with baking soda then drizzle some drops of vinegar over the baking soda to make it fizz. Leave on the bite until pain is gone.

Cover the bite with a dot of mustard.

Make a thick paste of meat tenderizer and vinegar, apply to bite area.

Cover the bite with honey and reapply as needed for pain.

Dab with a generous amount of toothpaste and leave on the bite area.

Apply ice or an ice pack.

Soak bite area in Epsom salt and water or make paste and apply to bite.

Apply Aloe Vera.

Chew a plantain leaf then apply the macerated leaf onto the bite.

Crush fresh parsley and apply to bite area.

Crush fresh basil leaves and apply to bite area.

Drizzle apple cider vinegar over the bite.

Apply a slice of fresh papaya to the bee sting.

Dab a bit of deodorant on the bite.

Apple Cider Vinigar

Good luck and I hope your pup feels better soon.

It's her back paw... and at first it was shaking a lot... I checked her paw carefully but couldn't see any swelling or even where she was stung. She's lazing around right now so I'm guessing she'll be okay. If she were allergic it would have showed by now, right? Thank you!!!!

Yes she should be just fine. No swelling? If not nothing to worry about. Just keep your eyes open.

Default Bee sting

My dog used to stick her nose in bee hives for fun. First time resulted in an emergency trip to the vet because she swelled so badly, her eyes were closing and she was having trouble breathing. We now keep Benadryl on hand and try to keep her away from bee hives. The Benadryl reduces the swelling and makes her a little sleepy.

If there is no swelling or pain, or other symptoms, I think you should be just fine. Just keep a close eye on her to make sure none develop. Or you could even call the vet and just tell them the situation and see if they have any extra advice! I hope she's okay
