Unanswered: ? about dog poo
? for you all
My dog is about 2 yrs old. Hi poop has been normal lately and he hasn't eaten anything out of the ordinary.
Until this week.....Now when I look at it - small portion is a much darker color than the rest. It's great constitency and he's having NO other issues. Then today there was less of the darker color and some green in it. He's eating, drinking, going to the bathroom as normal. Acting normal, wants to play, walk. Gums are nice and pink and he has a nice wet nose.
Is this something I need to be concerned about or am I freaking out for no reason. My husband said to give it the weekend and we'll keep an eye on it and see how it is on Monday...and then if she weird colored - then call vet.
I guess I need some reassurance as Im a total worry wart. All advice is much appreciated!!!

No expert here---but am guessing that the 'problem' is no longer there? In my vet book it states about a green or yellow color --rapid transit from the lower bowel. You also stated nothing out of the way as far as eating---Any asparagus in anything he ate or anything else as far as might change the color? The darker color--Was it the 'beginning' of the poop?---May of been something eaten that just took longer to go through. As I said--no expert here and if you still are seeing this 'problem' after the weekend--trip to the vet?--Of course you would want to take a fresh stool sample with you. I may have thought possibility of blood in the stool as far as
the dark color but it didn't show that color so much later. This is just my idea but may give you something to think about---If at start of this all, the darker part was the 1st part out of the stool, then the 'normal' color and the next poo had the green/yellow (How green?) that maybe he had a little constipation (the darker stool) then a normal followed that was directly behind the dark poo--next poo was a rapid (yellow/green) transit, lol, that was just wanting to get out from the darker poo holding it back. Lol, hope you get my meaning! Kind of a 'crappy' explanation--pun intended, sorry.

Thank you so much!!! He went to camp yesterday with my husband and my husband said it looked fine then. Of course, I'll be more at piece of mind when I see it. My baby has been napping since camp so I think once it cools off tonight - I'll take him for a walk and see!!!!

That's a better explanation than I could ever think of - but if you continue to have problems, many vets will analyze a sample without the office visit. This could save you some money if you continue to be concerned.

Good to hear things are okay. I am a worry wart also. One time on a late Sunday night in the worst snow storm of the year (Of course!) all of a sudden my dog was not acting normal--pacing, uncomfortable and all the symptoms of the dreaded Bloat! I started looking up everything I could find--vet book mainly. There was no way I could even think of even getting out of my driveway, let alone driving 10 miles to the vet's or of the vet even getting to the office. I don't know if I could do the emergency procedure or not---I would have had to put a tube/hose down his throat very carefully. What an option--and I live alone--no help at all. Thankfully my Corky finally let out an explosion of gas you would not believe. It sounded like a BIG balloon with all the noisy air being expelled in a strong steady stream. It was very laughable to see/hear if it hadn't been so serious. That was beginning of me adding apple cider vinegar to the supper meal. I raw feed and do some home cooking so was easy enough to do.

He is pooping green because of the dyes/food coloring in the treat! This would not be the same as a green color to do with health problems. Here is a list of ingredients/food dyes that Alpo adds to the snaps.----> Ingredients:
Wheat Flour, Beef Tallow Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols (form of Vitamin E), Wheat Gluten, Lecithin, Calcium Phosphate, Chicken By-Product Meal, Animal Digest (source of Liver Flavor), Lamb Meal, Oat Fiber, Calcium Carbonate, Natural Flavor, added color (Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Blue 1).
-----Note that blue and yellow combined makes green. Wondering if the beef flavored snaps would have only the red food coloring and if you gave him only the beef for about 2-3 days--Would the poop not be green!? You could check it out just for the heck of it. If no green poop--would prove it but if green poop --would not know for sure as the beef may have more than the red coloring in it.
Lol, black licorous candy can (if you eat enough of it) make you poop green too because of the dye in it! The red licorous will not do this. Lol, FYI type thing!
