Unanswered: Dog Lost a tooth yesterday
I adopted a supposedly ten year old poodle/shih tzu mix in May. Yesterday, he was running around in 'psycho dog' mode, playing happily with his toys. suddenly he was at my side, licking his chops, and sure enough, he had lost a bottom tooth. Easy to see since he has a large overbite. Is this normal? Will it grow back? Should I be worried?
I just had him to the vet for biting his belly raw. He is on antibiotics, plus 5mg of benedryl twice a day. Vet checked his ear and eyes, and took his temp while there. He did get a shot in his butt since he was biting there too.
Anyone??

If he is 10 years old, he is not a puppy so no he is not going to grow a new tooth. Old dogs loose their teeth quite often.

My boyfriend's 13 year old australian sheppard lost one of her teeth about a year ago as well, the vet said it's nothing to worry about since she's so old as long as it doesn't cause any discomfort or troubles eating. I'd still call the vet or take him in just to get the okay from the doctor.

Hi DV, Thanks for your reply. I just took him to the vet last week, and he is currently on antibiotics for a rash, so I am not worried about infection.
Although he seemed to be in pain initially, he seems just fine now.
My son has an Australian Shepard. Beautiful dogs. He is still a pup, and has that really soft coat.
Guess I will get him braces, lol. :-P

Australian Sheppards are such great dogs! And so cute as puppies! At 13, my boyfriend's dog is still so active and has barely showed any signs of slowing down, she still chases the frisbee all day everyday! So your son can look forward to a long, happy life with his as well hopefully
