Default Unanswered: Injured dog advice!

Hi,
I am very new to this forum but i will get straight to the point. My Pug dog named Jerome got clipped by a car backing out of my drive way, Jerome likes to chase cars. Well we took him to the vet immediatly because his eye has pretty well bulged out. So the vet has been doing his thing and has decided that we should take out the eye. He took out the eye today. I am pretty sure the vet had also said something about brain swelling. Now here is the problem, me and my mom had visted him today before his surgery and when the vet and us took jerome out for a pee, It looked like he had a real hard time walking and he wasnt excited like he usually is and he also looks like he doesnt recognize me and my mom. Now that we have spent the $1000 dollars im thinking should we put him through the possible brain damage for the rest of his life? We would be just heart broken if we had to let him go. But i also do not want him to suffer. Do you think we should wait it out and see if he gets better or should we just put him down. Its a really hard decision. I know my mom really does not want to put him down but I would hate to put him through that and for him not to be ever the same. Let me know what you think its greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jared

Give it a while. Mammalian brains have incredible elasticity and can 'reprogram' themselves. Also, in many cases swelling is temporary. There's no need to make this decision hastily. If it continues to be a problem well after the swelling should've subsided, then you can make your decision then.

I am really sorry to hear about your dog. I wish you all the best. I would wait and see what happened, he might fully recover give him time.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog, that has to be very upsetting and difficult to go through. I couldn't even imagine. Like the other, I'd agree that you should wait and give him some time. Any person or animal needs proper time to recover from a trauma like that. Also, I'd discuss what your vet thinks is the best option and what the odds are of a full recover to aid in your decision if you are still unsure.
